Fraz's Build: The Mighty Triton GLX-R (image and BS heavy)

Post by fraz91 »

Sup nigglets, I'm back 8)

So I've decided that I miss you guys (well, some of you), and will be trying to get to more events, whether that be risking my life in Lawso's car, or towing bennoz's back from Wakefield :P  Definitely glad that this forum is similar to the triton one, can just copy/past the codes for the pictures without too much hassle

So, here's what's fitted to the car so far:

Safari Snorkel
Image

BFGoodrich All Terrain's (LT265/70R17):
Image

GME TX3100 UHF with a 6.5dB Antenna:
Image

Ultimate Suspension 2" Lift Kit with Red Braided Brake Lines:
Image
Image

ML Styleside (about 25cm shorter than the one I had) and MCC Rear Protection Bar:
Image

Provent 200 PCV Separator (these things get phenomenal blow-by when running 26psi boost):
Image

Galvanised 4mm Steel Bash Plates (already been given a workout):
Image

Chip-It Diesel Performance Chip with Exhaust Gas Temperature Controller, running Tune 8. Currently running 26psi (30psi spikes from VGT) and probably pushing about 200hp (150kW) and around 550Nm at the flywheel (stock is 175bhp (131kW) and 400Nm). Running a UniFilter (prefer it to K&N as it filters dust out better) and yet to get an exhaust to make the most of it 8)

Uniquely shaped sidesteps, to be replaced with either Bushskinz 4x4 or AVA Rocksliders.

Custom Pin-striping and dents.

Narva Ultima 175 75W Halogen Driving Lights and HID 6000K 35W Hi/Lo headlights.

Full sound system upgrade utilising the factory MMCS GPS Head-Unit, albeit modified to gain more bass output. Kenwood 500W 4ch amp powering 4 Alpine SPS-600 3way door speakers. Factory tweeters running of the standard sound unit, don't really need to amp them. Have been looking into a slimline sub/amp combo, but will have to wait and see how funds go as I want some muddies first
I'll have an FTO one day... i swear!

until then:
1. 2001 Merc-Benz A160 (porta-loo on wheels)
2. 2007 Peugeot 307 TDi (more fun than you'd expect)

Hair-do indeed

Its looking good Fraz, always been a fan of these tritons. For work I use a '99 Triton dual cab 4x4 with alloy tray. When $$ permits, I'll be looking to upgrade to the newer gen.

Okay, so with bennoz getting pissy about me posting what work I did to my car today in the correct thread, I figured I'd dig this one up again. Most of this is pulled straight from the aforementioned thread, so sorry if it's a repeat. I'll try and keep everything to do with the mighty Triton in this thread (just for you bennoz :cheeky: )

Recently pulled apart my newly broken CV. Thought I'd done the shaft, but instead took a little cleaning to work out what had happened:

Image

Also, finally got some decent side protection for the beast. Xrox Sliders with Hi-lift jack points in them. I can now comfortably lift the entire side of the vehicle with my hi-lift under these 8)

Old sidesteps vs. New Sliders:

New sliders installed:

That's all well and dandy, but when you have limited space inside the cabin, you have to make use of it as best as possible...

Unfortunately a slimline is my best option, and will be looking at putting it under the drivers seat. Have been scouring fleabay for some decent soundstream all-in-one units that have the amp for the sub in the one box, but so far no luck. That, and having next to no cash on hand doesn't help.

Slimline sub is 1000% better than no sub at all. I have heard some slimlines in utes that pump super hard ;)

BTW nice truck :D

I run a top range kicker slimline in my FTO, only running 320rms to it - wanted slimline so it sits perfectly under the strut brace and so gives me all my boot space back.
Sounds immaculate - i would go kicker all the way - i found it at WoW and bargained them down to 450 from 650 - maybe something a little less would be better suited to your budget your probably not as picky with sound as i am, but still, if done properly imo sound the same if not better than a regular sh*tty bulky fusion/pioneer/OA sub popping away wiht too much bass.

Not my cup of tea the old 4x4's but it looks good and im sure to someone who does appreciate those cars it is an awesome piece of work :thumright:

Cheers Taz. any chance you can throw up a link to the kicker sub you got? I'm pretty particular about sound, and I've spent considerable time trying to get it to sound right. At the moment I'm happy with the sound, but i know there's a lot more to be had from the system. If there's a lower spec version of your sub then I'd be even more interested. :D

Friend of mine in his MR2 has gone for an option of using slim 8ohm speakers and running them in series.

Quite a decent setup given the space in the MR2 is minimal.

Oh, and it's not the Hairdresser MR2. It's the SW22.

Re: Fraz's Build: The end of a chapter

Post by fraz91 »

It's been a while since I updated this thread, but I think tonight is fitting.

As some of you may be aware, the Triton has been up for sale for about 6 months now. Tonight, I watched it leave my driveway for the last time. To say it was difficult is an understatement, but I'm sure the new owner will enjoy it hopefully as much as I did.

After 5 years, 150-odd thousand kms, 3 alternators, 4 CV's and 5 of lawso's cars towed  it had worked its way into the family. I learnt a lot of my trade on this vehicle. Fitting, removing, modifying, re-fitting only to find that the mod had made it worse, and starting over from a new angle. It had taken me places I never thought it would, and done so with more ease than I thought possible. It was probably one of the most capable yet mildly modified triton's used as an off-road tourer. It surprised a lot of people, and even made others re-think just how tough these trucks could be.

I will miss you old girl...
