Re: Shane's new Turbo RaceCar Project
TBH I've always had a love / hate relationship with them, never knew why, until I started researching options and realised there are two different chassis, the longer 4 seater and the shorter 2 seater. The longer 4 seater looks boring, the shorter 2 seater looks RACECAR

Re: Shane's new Turbo RaceCar Project
No, a lot of work ahead, may not even use that shell yet, have another silver one in the back yard as well.
First step is stripping them down, removing all the interior and everything I don't need, then start looking at engine, etc.
Hope to have it on track by around mid year, racing by end of the year. Must be ready for Bathurst next year

Cool.. Good luck.. Always helps to have a spare shell..Shane001 wrote:No, a lot of work ahead, may not even use that shell yet, have another silver one in the back yard as well.

Re: Shane's new Turbo RaceCar Project
I've got a couple of mates who've just bought 2 and are restoring one back to it's former glory. Full rebuild with engine too.

Re: Shane's new Turbo RaceCar Project
I've always liked these and often imagined that in their day these things must have been unbelievably impressive to see.
Though as a race car it seems a bit of an odd option considering the weight/bulk of them and from what I gathered the engines were never too reliable and/or had overheating issues.
Either way, nice car
What happened to your FTO race car? Gone?

Re: Shane's new Turbo RaceCar Project
Almost bought one of these, several times.
Just too much stigma with them which stops me.
Hope it all turns out sweetly.

Re: Shane's new Turbo RaceCar Project
I'm pretty sure they're lighter than an R34 for example ^

Re: Shane's new Turbo RaceCar Project
Much lighter, I'm hoping to bring it in around 1300kg race weight. The FTO is 1100kg.

Re: Shane's new Turbo RaceCar Project
The FTO is the first fwd I've owned, all my previous cars have been rwd, v8s or modified 6s, my first racecar was a 300rwhp turbo Supra. The FTO is a great car and is a lot of fun to race but it's time for me to step up a class again to something a bit faster. The zed will hit the track with around 300-350rwhp, with easy bolt on mods to get this up around 400rwhp as I develop the car, Plus lots of easy bolt on brake and suspension upgrades.Technikhaus wrote:Pitty you're selling the FTO

Plus I've always wanted a (2 seater) zed
The only downside is my running costs will double

Re: Shane's new Turbo RaceCar Project
Yeah once I start a build thread over on the 300zx forums I'll post up a link and more details.
For now, first stage is the dismantling.
