Went for a drive in a BMW M5

Post by notoriousTASH »

I thought I'd fill you guys in on by far the fastest car experience on my life. My sister's boyfriend's dad bought himself a shiny new 2013 BMW M5. He took my dad and I for a drive (he lives in Austral)

At the end of it, I found it a bit difficult to walk, similar to the effect you feel after going on a really fast roller coaster.

It. Was. Amazing.

Yeah my boss has an M5. Real nice cars.

Although theyre a manual without a clutch arent they? No clutch with a paddle shift and dont you have to take your foot off the accelerator to change gears same in a manual? Or am I imagining things.
I fix cars.

You're spot on. No joke, when he was accelerating it just kept going at the same rate. We hit about 260 but I'm not sure how many seconds it took to hit that speed. It was in a matter of seconds. That twin turbo V8 is just something else.

The scary part is how stable the car feels at that speed. Mum's audi will comfortable sit on 180km/h along certain "private" roads, and it doesn't feel like you're doing any more than 80km/h. It's unnerving just how calm the whole ordeal is.
I'll have an FTO one day... i swear!

until then:
1. 2001 Merc-Benz A160 (porta-loo on wheels)
2. 2007 Peugeot 307 TDi (more fun than you'd expect)
3. 2009 Mitsubishi Triton Di-D (a monster in its own right)
4. 1992 Nissan NX Coupe (club car and project car)
5. 1996 Holden SB Barina - "The Nugget"
6. 1996 Jeep XJ Cherokee Sport - The Budget Build
7. 2010 Toyota Landcruiser 76 Series - V8 Goodness... - Build coming soon.
8. 1990 Audi 90 manual - The delightfully dignified daily driver

Yeah that definitely tripped me out about the M5 - 260 and it felt nothing like it. I mean obviously you get sucked back into your seat but it was so smooth it was ridiculous.

Clubby's are great for straight-line speed and, surprisingly, drifting. Lots of instant torque and raw power that can be easily unlocked with some simple, bolt-on upgrades. The M5 does what the clubby will, plus more. It's more refined at speed thanks to the autobahns and nurburgring, something us aussies don't have (unless they developed the clubby on mt. panorama).

They should have done that years ago.
Instead of these facelifted classics with a plastic badge, they should have developed an actual road racer.

Yes of course, but lets say if I was blindfolded and was presented with 2 keys, and whichever key I picked I would get to keep the corresponding car, I would be crying if I had to drive away the Holden ;)

LOL

Also with a ferrari you pay for the engine, the rest of the car is cheap...

Mclaren all the way. Or BMW, the M5 is awesome. I like the top range Audis too.
I fix cars.

Haven't driven in a mclaren so cant comment,
In terms of most basic raw power, corvette has the most 'seat-of-the-pants' fun
