Choices, choices...

Sup guys!

So my old man lives up in QLD, and he's got a massive passion for cars. Not just ordinary cars, exotic cars...
I'll just put firstly that he's on a 'significant' wage (not that I benefit anything hahaha) and currently drives a 2005 Aston Martin Vanquish S.
However, he had the Vanquish valued last month and it's depreciated from the $280K he purchased it for to $170K, which has left him rather intimidated... He came to Adelaide at minimal notice yesterday which i assumed would have been for work, but today I learned his true intentions!
Turns out he wants to invest in a classic car for the sake of financial investment and collector purposes, and he's been in contact with some collectors in regards to some 'hidden classics' that haven't seen the road in years. He located some cars to inspect in Adelaide, and asked me to accompany him!
We now face a serious #firstworldproblems moment here, as we've just inspected two amazing cars today...

The real question... WHICH ONE!?

The first car we inspected was this; a 1966 Aston Martin DB6 Mk II Vantage. $320K ONO, considering offering $300K flat if it's a winner. Completely original with 24,000 genuine miles.

This is the second car; a 1958 Chevrolet Corvette C1. Asking $80k ONO. Mint condition, less than 10,000 miles on the motor since restoration in 2002. Fully complied.

Waitwaitwait. I thought you said on FB that he'd already bought the Aston?

Also, holy f**k that's an expensive car.

He's pretty much decided on it already, but we're still considering the 'vette.

Why not both?

The Aston was my pick as well. As an Aston Martin owner, I think he's pretty loyal to them as well. They really look after their customers.

The 'vette is... cheap... considering? So sure, why not both?

The custom plate is probably worth as much as the car, haha.

That was the first thing I said

Hard to believe that they've been locked up all this time. Not a single show, cruise or outing. Only collecting years (and dust) in sheds... High surveillance sheds

I wonder if they have appreciated since their owners first bought them. Just passing them on to appreciate some more!

That's why the old man wants to invest. They're only going to appreciate, especially the DB6. Apparently the price went up a bit after Skyfall was released... A bond car will ALWAYS be valuable. (although it's not a DB5, it's bloody close. lol)

ive always had a soft spot for the C1,

the 57 (my choice) was the first fuel injected corvette and the 58 was the first to have quad headlights... thatd def be my pick, $80K and you're laughing, much more pleasure to be had from that than the tin top aston.

and having been in a few corvettes of that era, it looks like the restorer did a fantastic job, only fault i can see is the gear knob should be white

The relationship between dad and I has improved over the year. We're trying to place our differences aside and act like a family for once.

Why doesn't he give u some cash if he's got it to waste on a car?

My parents don't give me any cash though, but its not like they have 200k cash to blow on a piece of metal that's going to sit in a garage.

I say good on him  if you got the money and you want something then just get it  .
If it sits in the man cave 364 days a year so what.

He doesn't give me anything, but I do see his logic.
He firmly believes that one has to work for their money. He's been in his career since he was 18, so he's worked for what he has now.
However, a little help every now and then wouldn't be too bad :?

Good on Ya's, family is everything, keep working at it.

It's great that he is involving you in his current purchase too, it shows a real effort on his side.
