Turbo owners! - Looking at a Twin Turbo 300zx

Post by JohanGPX »

Addressing turbo owners

As the title says, I'm looking at buying a zed. It's a stock 91 TwinTurbo, it starts first time, it revs nicely, no smoke whatsoever and very clean/straight. My only worry is the idling issue - after letting the revs drop, it will idle fine for about 2 seconds, then start to run rich and slowly drop revs to a stall.

My initial guess was a sensor, but I'm wondering if the problem could also be turbo related (I know next to nothing about them as I'm just coming off my P's).

It's unregistered and due to the idle issue I'd be getting it for very cheap, just wondering what you guys think the problem could be and if it's worth my time & money.

Cheers!

Speak to Shane as he is the only Z owner here.

I did a lot of research on them not long ago, the idle issues can be easily solved, so if you can score it for cheap, then it's worth it.
Check the Z owners forum, has a lot of indepth tech articles, and those related to the idle issue is there.

EDIT: I see you are already on there, surprised you didn't get linked.

Perhaps 'own' would have been a better choice of word. :P

This isn't the eBay one listed is it?

Nope! Not on eBay, I found it through facebook.

Hopefully Shane sees this soon enough, otherwise I'll spam his inbox

He did post in there, best answer was 'a sensor'.

Much like the SR20, the IAC is typically the fault, though not always.
The tech article goes through all possible causes of what could be the culprit.

First thing to check is boost leaks. Zeds run an AFM, very sensitive to any leaks in the system.

True, obvious things are often overlooked.

My NX was on 3 before my friend went to inspect (I didn't have time) funny what old chewed up spark leads can do do proper functioning of an engine.

OR

My old NX, overheated often... kinda happens when the coolant is brown and the radiator cap doesn't hold any pressure.

Love ignorance, it makes buying cars cheaply so easy.
