Factory HID... You f#@&

Post by Astron_Boy »

Okay, so on the second drive of the FTO, the passenger side HID went.
Now these are factory HId, not aftermarket.
Okay, so what's the diff?

The diff is the amount of extra effort just to change a globe.

http://www.fto-ireland.com/forum/viewto ... 11&t=11365

Now I know there's a DIY to remove the bumper, and I for 1 have always been screwed when it comes to doing it, the bumper hangs on the left hand side from a previous attempt.

I'm currently in the means of finding a replacement bulb as they are not a shop stocked item, and Mitsuripmeoffbishi parts wants my left nut.

As we will be driving the FTO to the bonfire, ie early morning drive, headlights required, is anyone willing to come round, or myself come round to there to change the headlight bulb. (I know Lawso likes taking bumpers off *hint*)

Depending on the price, I might buy both bulbs to save me doing this crap again anytime soon with the drivers side.

*fingers crossed it's just the globe, can't check till I get replacements...*

I'd be happy to give you hand in changing it over. I've got your old NX in my driveway, might as well make it a posse and throw the FTO in there as well

PM me an afternoon/weekend and I'll be happy to help ;)
I'll have an FTO one day... i swear!

until then:
1. 2001 Merc-Benz A160 (porta-loo on wheels)
2. 2007 Peugeot 307 TDi (more fun than you'd expect)
3. 2009 Mitsubishi Triton Di-D (a monster in its own right)
4. 1992 Nissan NX Coupe (club car and project car)
5. 1996 Holden SB Barina - "The Nugget"
6. 1996 Jeep XJ Cherokee Sport - The Budget Build
7. 2010 Toyota Landcruiser 76 Series - V8 Goodness... - Build coming soon.
8. 1990 Audi 90 manual - The delightfully dignified daily driver

Cheers fraz

With recent information I've acquired, I have sent a PM to someone and will either let you know or post a new thread.

Where abouts are you based anyway? Can PM if you don't wish to announce.

Cheers

Ummm...... Front bumper is only 10 screws and takes 5-10 minutes to take off. Not hard at all.

I drive down to Sydney quite frequently. So I wouldn't mind popping by.

    DC2 connection?
Could you elaborate on how you did yours?
From the forum it said the AC lines were in the way, however this was the drivers side, it's my passenger globe that has gone, so perhaps not as many issues, but my factory intake snorkel is still present, havent checked clearance yet.

And yeah (apparently DC2) they're 100% stock, so I assume so...

That would be good, but I'd still need to buy you a bulb to replace the one you sent me (much of a muchness?)
May as well replace with new bulbs as I know I'll get another (supposed 3000hrs) from them.

Found on eBay a pair of Philips brand for $123.50 delivered from the states, express post (10days)

Going to check the balust when I get home, see if it has simply perhaps jiggled loose or something. However I doubt that... :?

I got my 10000k DC2 from yahoo japan. Was $63 delivered.

I replaced the passengers side by disconnecting the intake pipes and then taking the plastic waterproof cap off and undoing the spring loaded clip. Took me 20 mins.

Agreed - don't know what everyone is complaining about - there is 4 bolts underneath the car which an ordinary ratchet with an extension bar would easily get to and a few in the wheel arches from memory holding the bar onto the fenders.
Provided you jack the car up it comes off in 5min with only a ratchet needed - or are you trying to take off the actual bumper without taking out the bar it sits on that bolts onto the chassis?
The bar literally slides out after a few bolts.

Hmm, will have a look when I get home, hopefully the road is dry for me to crawl under the front.

    Cheers.

And yeah, that price seems to be on par with the price I can get, so that's fine.

Also FYi depending on what you have they are an absolute nightmare to get out, mine had the factory 'caps' on the end of the headlight box and f**k me....only 3 star shaped bolts hold it in, but even after removing the water resovoir and taking the intake box out they still are almost impossible to get at with an allen key which barely fits in the awkward space, took me 30min a side just to get the caps off, then they must of been changed over to regular for compliance to some crummy light which they had spliced into the wires and cut off the plug, so now i only have the wires soldered in and covered with gaffa tape...what a nightmare - GL with that one
