How annoying was it to move it? haha

when pics are up will show what i mean better

head unit is now sitting properly in the glove box and no more work needs to be done on it.

the tablet still needs some work to make it work as i desire (listed below)
. 12v to 5v converter purchased on ebay
. new charger (i cut myn up then realised it was 5v, sad times) also purchased on ebay
. sim card
. memory card

should get the above by end of the week or early next week then the tablet can go in.

in other news i got my dstocks bumper, just waiting on fog lights and also need to get some indicators.

12v to 5v converter? Why not just buy a 2.1amp USB car charger?

i was considering it.
the one i bought was usb to wiring so i can just solder it straight into the desired area (pretty much plug and play).

how did you do it with charger? as they have the converter already?

The USB charger just plugs into a cigarette lighter socket. You can either wire in a new socket behind the dash. Or just solder some wires to the connections. Don't know which converter you got but it should do the same thing. As long as it is rated for over 2amps. If it is less the tablet won't charge.

You may need to do a slight modification to the USB part for it to work. The way tablets work is they have two charging modes. "USB" and "AC", the "USB" mode is low power and will only draw 500ma, "AC" mode is high power and it will draw 2a.

Now the way the tablet recognises how it is connected is via the two data cables in the USB (white and green). When all the cables run straight through it will be under "USB" power. When the white and green cables are shorted it will tell the tablet it is on "AC"

i hope it works, iff not ill do your idea

however im not sure i fully understand. so if the (green and white wires short) and it runs of ac and draws 2a, would it still charge normally but when disconnected (no power) just use the battery (stand by) or due to it always being run of ac would this fry the battery? or it would not recognize its connected? if you could explain it abit more in lamens terms lol, dealing with electrical is still a bit new to me.

Its just the way the tablet recognises if it should draw 2amp or 500ma. It is designed that way so that when the tablet is connected to a computers USB port it doesn't draw more power than the port can handle.

The wall charger and 2.1a car chargers have the two data wires shorted already inside. So the tablet knows to draw more power.

And just a FYI, the tablet cannot keep its charge if on "USB" power, because it uses more than 500ma to keep itself awake.

oh i understand now.

well as the photo only shows the power and Ground, hopefully the other two wires are shorted so it knows to draw 2 amps.
thanks for explaining it to me hahaha.

For mine, I just bought a car charger, as well as a new cigarette lighter, and wired it in behind the dash, it works, but it's just quite bulky :p

yeh i dont really like bulky items in the car, thats why i chose to go down that route but if it doesnt go to plan ill do as you did.

in other news the fog lights arrived today, just have to order the indicators now.

is there more than one option for indicators?

Are you going to be using Tasker to automate everything? I spent about 5 hours getting everything to work flawlessly with Tasker.

^ What did you automate on it?

It's a little bulky, but it's not visible, being behind the dash :p
Indicators wise you only really have two options, the stock ones, or the clear ones...

I have it set so that when it gets power it turns on the display and keeps it on, sets the brightness, turns on WiFi, GPS, sets the volume and starts playing music. When it has no power it does the opposite.

What I had problems with was that when you turn the key to ACC it goes through the Power On sequence but when you crank the engine to start it loses power so the tablet goes through the Power Off sequence and then back to Power On after you stop cranking.

To resolve this I had to set up a couple of actions so that if it loses power for a couple seconds it won't go through the Power Off sequence. The issue I had with this was that it would go through the Power On sequence again, even though it was already on, which would pause the music.

To resolve that issue I had to set a variable so that it would stop the Power On sequence if it was already on.
