SchumieFan's - '95 GPX Limited - Car Of The Year

Post by SchumieFan »

Officially Introducing:

SchumieFan's 1995 FTO GPX Limited - Car Of The Year Edition

The Facts:
Production number 40 of 207
Imported 2002
Previous owner was an older lady owner who bought the car from Edward Lee's Japanese Car Centre in 2002 and performed no modifications, sold it back to Edward Lee's July 2013 and I bought it with 104150Km's on the odo.
- She nicknamed the car Tweety Bird... and so it shall continue.
Car is stock standard all round with very few exceptions

My intent with this car is to restore it back to Stock Standard 'just rolled off the factory floor' condition.
This involves returning the stereo back to factory, the removal of compliance additions from importing and fixing anything that has worn out over time.
The idea is to achieve the rarest and best possible example of a Mitsubishi FTO, as intended by its designers and also keep the car in the best possible condition for when it hits the classic car category.
Some hidden parts will be upgraded where necessary with more modern parts if they are not visable, things like speakers, poly bushes, that sort of thing...

I have had this idea, this dream of owning a clean COTY edition since the beginning of 2006.

My Previous FTO was also a 95GPX, I owned it in 2004 - 2011, however it was a standard model with 135000ks on the odo that blew the motor twice and was eventually crushed and turned into a watch... it had a hard life...

I was wondering if you knew which number it was.

I thought that, but I've never seen another tab noting which production number the car was.
Like the ralliart Magna, or exa GP, I simply thought they had a plate...

Clever cookie. Should get a little brass plate or something engraved and stick it in the engine bay.

Done!

took out the spare wheel cover and carpet and dried them on Bennoz's lawn

took some wd-40 to the boot lock and now it works! always a plus!

Might try to track down some T5 and T10 bulbs for the aircon lights, got some LED's today but not too fond of them

Yeah engine bay needs a good degrease... looks like some small sh*t building up from the cam cover too...

passenger side light is perfect, drivers side has some blisters.

So ive had a think,

obviously im having a similar issue that everyone is having with FTO's of this age as Bennoz spotted yesterday, i have a small amount of oil leaking from around the cam/rocker covers.

its really probably not worth worrying about at this stage, but im gonna degrease the whole engine bay and give it a wash.

I will then be able to gauge the severity of whichever leak I have... hoping its not cam seals!

So within the near future im thinking ill redo the cam cover gaskets, and seen as how I have to do cam belt anyway do the head gasket and cam seals/spark plug oil seals... intake seals etc etc etc - full gasket set..

also updated original post...
