Earthborn's Fto GR

Post by Earthbornseven »

Hiya!

A sort of disclaimer:

I'm not a mechanic, nor a professional. My father was though and he wanted me to be into cars. I reckon he got more than he expected And not to mention I felt like one hell of a challenge.
This "build" is me doing as much as I possibly can myself, the budget for the car comes from very close to minimum wage. I will fail some things, I will get some things right. Sometimes I'll have to do things over again and again
All of the work I do is in the little secluded parking lot next to the house - no garage, no special equipment, just a trolley jack, couple of stands, some basic tools and loads of patience and swearing in every known language
The "build" I will try to do is pretty much "Make it useable as a daily driver and casual track car, make it feel as new and modern as possible, make it look nice to myself". But it's mine, I like it without even having a chance to drive it and will not hesitate to spend where I think it matters .

Details:
Model:FTO GR-sport (Pre-facelift)
Colour: Silver
Year:1996
Transmission: Auto

Work Done:
-New piston rings.
-New spark plugs
-Auto Transmission serviced (Looks like it had not been done in its lifetime :? )
-Larger battery
-New sound system (Kicker 12" sub, 2 rockford 6" speakers, 2 rockford 6x9" rear speakers, 2 alpine amps.)
-Ultra racing front and rear strut bar
-Carbon Fibre Evo style Bonnet
-Slotted and dimpled RDA rotors & Gpx Brake upgrade
-Headlight housing replaced
-Body kit repair
-Performance Air filter
-Replaced stereo surrounds
-Side mounted licence plate
-17x7 Rims
-Slam panel, Dial surround, Maf cover, Gear surround, Fuse box top cover.
-Timing belt kit replacment

And if all things are good financially in a couple of years... engine swap

Nice pickup!. Welcome to the club as well

 In my defense, ive only wrecked the ones that weren't worth fixing. Sidds, Daniel, Lawso, Kaz and Long are among the examples of ones ive bought that have been resurrected (and there are at least 3 or 4 others).

It also appears that i completely suck with a camera lol :suicide:

Painted over the seals around the window for now to give it a cleaner look until i end up replacing them for better quality seals.

Next the install of the sub.
Its not that pretty but it does the job, 1x 12" kicker sub, 6x 6" Rocksford speakers, with amps all around.

WTTC, congrats on the epic find. Should get plenty of looks in Tamworth, my old home town never had much to offer as imports go, but these days they are everywhere.
Keeping an eye out for more pics.

While I wait for a shipment of parts to arrive, thought I would try a bit of cleaning.

Cleaned the rims and had my first attempt to clean the engine bay :-? I dont think i did a bad job for my first time.

Anyone of you experts have any tips to help me out with cleaning the engine bay?
