Project: TIFFANY (1997 GP Version-R)

Post by ObsidianRadio »

Well here she is...

My partner (Amy) and I are proud to announce the next FTO to add to the collection... We've named her Tiffany (the name will make sense in due course!)
This Version-R was originally Bushido's... It's had some work done to it (as most of you know) and it goes like a shower of sh*t.
Purchased the vehicle off Stoogey with 120XXXkm.
The driveshafts were clunking upon purchase, and the brakes had quite a bit of a squeal. Otherwise; an overall great car!

CURRENT MODIFICATIONS:

All the standard Version-R goodies are on the car. HID headlights, strut braces, door lining, blue seats, no f**king climate control, no f**king sound deadener etc...

- UAS intake pipe
- Unifilter
- Heat shield
- Hurricane HPC extractors
- Metalcat
- Apexi N1 Evolution catback exhaust (resonator removed)
- G4 coilovers (street spec: 8kg fronts & 6kg rears)
- DBA 4000 slotted rotors front and rear
- Ferodo DS2500 pads
- Willans 4 point harness
- 5 speed manual conversion (done on 04/06/08)
- Rebuilt gearbox & Exedy heavy duty clutch
- Cusco Type MZ 1.5 way LSD
- Custom Driveshafts
- Haltech Interceptor piggyback ECU (running a relatively conservative tune producing 126 FWKW)
- Rear guards professionally rolled
- Clear side indicators
- New Stepper motor
- Alarm & immobilizer

CURRENT PLANS:
- Replace f**ked driveshafts with custom stainless steel driveshafts
- Machine brake rotors (they have a 1mm lip at the moment)
- Roll front guards
- Replace front bar
- Replace rear bar
- Full respray (the colour remains a secret with this one)
- Source new wheels (looking at ROTA Grids or Volk TE37s in 18"
- Fit new tyres to wheels (Bridgestone RE002 Adrenalins or Federal 595 RSRs)
- Polish all engine components (here we go again...)
- Customise the MIVEC cover
- Locate some fog lights (AGAIN)
- Loads of other sh*t which I won't say for now because you'll all think I'm a nutjob

HERE ARE SOME PICTURES YAY #BJK

UPDATE 1:

So I snapped the R/H driveshaft 24 hours later

Was leaving a carpark with a *larger* person sitting on the back seat (I will still blame it on them because I'm an asshole like that) and I heard it go as I was shifting into second.
Had the car towed to pretty much the Evo/Legnum/FTO specialist in Adelaide when Tim's Knott here (#seewhatididthere.jpg) and they worked out the issue pretty much straight away...

...The driveshaft was literally welded together, and I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did.

So I'm currently having a set of custom driveshafts made up for in stainless steel, and my wallet is going to ADORE me for it.
Oh, and got the brakes machined too

    UPDATE:

Heard back about the driveshaft today and it's well underway! Needs custom splines (obviously) and it's expected to be back mid next week... The bloke said that whoever put that Cusco Type MZ into an FTO is a maniac, he thought it was pretty awesome hahaha!

Also found the ferodos have had their day (RIP) so it has green stuff pads now!

Stop saying 'custom', there's nothing custom about MZ splines  I had one in my last gearbox before I moved to the Wavetrac. Standard 27 spline FTO stub axles fit. I can understand why it busted the shaft though, MZ are cranky son's of bitches when trying to do 3 point turns

Make sure you use good LSD oil in the box

    Update on the driveshaft...

...so who's the coconut who welded sh*t to the driveshaft to make it fit properly? Seriously? Would be very interested to see which workshop did this!

Support brackets, that cusco LSD has so much force you need to weld brackets from shaft to chassis.
