Photos and Videos "Cruise to Bonfire 2014"

Post by PHIL069 »

The SA crew had a great time at this years bonfire. The drive over to NSW was an epic and fun journey.

Day 1
The Adelaide members and myself met up at 9:30pm Thursday near the SA/VIC border at Renmark.
First thing we done was to set our VHF radios to channel "69".
We stayed the night at a Murray River caravan park in our tents.

Day 2
We set off east at 8am on Friday morning, after fuelling up at Renmark.
15km's before reaching Hay at 2pm, which is in the middle of NSW, the highway was blocked and closed due to a major road accident.
We were informed that the highway would be closed until midnight and that we could cut accross a farms' paddock dirt track which ran alongside the highway, so off we went for a bit of off roading. Eventually arriving at Hay for a well earnt rest and some lunch.
8:30pm Friday night we arrived at our next overnight camping ground stay at Gundagai, again it was already dark and it was also raining. We didn't have time to purchase takeaway dinner, so it was noodles by the river for dinner.

Day 3
Saturday morning was a wet camp pack-up in the continuing downpore.
Off we set to Canberra, as bjk needed to catch a plane home from Canberra airport for family issues back at Adelaide.
We went up Mount Ainslie to take a look at the view but found ourselves in the middle of a cloud and couldn't see anything.
Next stop was Parliment House, a bit of a internal tour, then back to the underground carpark for a bit of Parliment House/MIVEC fun.
Arriving at the airport we said our goodbyes to bjk. ObsidianRadio took up the challenge of controlling bjks' GPX for the rest of the journey.
Now it was finally time to head to Dwaynes for the bonfire, arriving early Saturday afternoon to a flooded causeway and Dwayne directing us to stop in the torrent to have a time exposure pic taken of our FTOs. We had to reset up our already wet tents. Then it was time to relax and drink the night away.
The bonfire was a great night, we met new faces and reminisced with known faces.

Day 4
Sunday morning we headed off with the QLD/NSW crews for the first leg of our journey back accross to SA. It was an epic site to lead so many cars cruising together.
Along the way we had to do a small water crossing, as ObsidianRadio was crossing very slowly with his window open to look down at the water, a car came the opposite direction quite fast. You can imagine what happened next. Quote "Now I look like I'm in a wet T-shirt comp" I watched the whole thing through my mirror and couldn't stop laughing for at least 30 mins.
We stayed at Hay Sunday night, this time in a cabin, went out to the local Pub for dinner and a couple of coldies.

Day 5
Monday morning, it was now the time for our final leg back to SA. We had a bit of fun filming ourselves with action cams on the way back accross the Hay Plains.
Stopped for a late lunch back in Renmark and then split up and headed to Adelaide and Port Pirie.
I arrived back in Pirie at 6pm Monday afternoon.

A big thanks to kiz, ObsidianRadio and bjk (sorry you had to leave us) for making the looooooong drive fun and rememberable.

Sweet shots Phil! Was indeed a good trip for what I had. Cheers again for Jack for driving my car back home in one piece. When I get home I will have to upload the pictures I took. (though I doubt they will be as good quality as these!)

Speaking of empty roads, where is that other video Phil, or is there too much incriminating evidence haha

I haven't edited it yet as I have been working on the Galant and my PC's hard drives are full.
I have an extra terrabyte drive to install, it's just getting around to doing it.

Warning: shitload of images incoming. I'd say they're overdue, but meh!

Most of the shots I was pretty happy with. But anything low light or rolling tended to be kinda blurry cause I bought "good enough" camera.

Yeah, I quite like those too. I think my cheap camera likes a lot of sunshine to work properly haha. But some of those gravel shots turned out pretty well considering.
