New stepper motor causing high idle?
Ok so got a new stepper motor and it's made my car idle really high, about 2000rpm cold and warms to about 3000rpm?
I had a bit of a play, the idle screw is all the way in, and unscrewing it only made it idle up more. Tried to adjust the TPS and it didn't seem to have any effect at all, the idle didn't change. Checked accelerator cable, the only bit I didn't try was to adjust the screw on the back where the cable connects, thought I would be set from factory.
So yea I'm out of ides, maybe u guys have some??

Did you put in the rubber seal when you put in the new stepper?

K, well I'm out of ideas.
Just for the arguments factor and to rule anything else out, plug in your old stepper.
Possibly faulty replacement...
If the problem only occurred in the process of replacing the new one then you've tapped something, or the stepper is fooked.

Check for vac lines that may have come off. Around the back of the TB, also check the vac line to the air flow sensor if its a Mivec.

Checked all vac lines. yes it is a mivec, this may sound silly but where is the air flow sensor??
If u mean the map sensor? Then that was replaced not long ago. And yes connected.
Idle is 1100-1200 in drive or reverse.

Re: New stepper motor causing high idle?
Tried reset, , and also had the same thought as astron *faulty stepper* but i brought a second one witch did the same thing as the first one i brought. also checked wires goin to stepper motor. And tried to adjust the idle screw at accelerater cable, thinking might just have to go to the mechanics

Check the error codes first: viewtopic.php?f=21&t=14667

Re: New stepper motor causing high idle?
Take your intake pipe off and check the tb valve isn't slightly open when idling.

Re: New stepper motor causing high idle?
Error codes checked none present, and checked the butterfly vave in the TB and it was open a tiny bit enough to fit a piece of paper throug but I tried to adjust it from the idle screw on back, and it seems it don't go ant further, it's ment to sit that way.

Re: New stepper motor causing high idle?
The butterfly is meant to be open a tiny bit, that is how the car idles, the idle screw will determine how open or closed it will sit.
again, have you tried your old stepper?

Accelerator cable might be pulling on a bit, try slackening it right off on top of the manifold

Re: New stepper motor causing high idle?
Tried old stepper, it goes back to idol to low, enough to run but won't start in mornings without some peddel.
idle goes up and down and dips really low when changing from park. All the reasons I replaced it in the first place

Re: New stepper motor causing high idle?
First one from cyberspace auto parts, second one from eBay, second hand off a fto. It starts and idle smother with the new stepper but idle at 2500 And both the new stepper motors cause the same problem idle at 2500. So the new one is working correctly. My guess is I need to just lower the idol some how?? But iv already tried most ways I know how!

Re: New stepper motor causing high idle?
The butterfly should rest on the sas screw at idle. If you played with your TPS if you have it adjusted wrong this would cause an high idle. Also try loosen off your throttle cable on the inlet manifold a bit and see if the idle drops.
