Re: Daniel's Rookie DIY Engine Reco!

Had a go at getting the rocker cover off, unsuccessfully. Used the guide in the DIY section, made sure I disconnected everything and had all the bolts out but it's still sealed on tight. Does anyone have suggestions on how to remove the cover? My guess is that its been sitting lifelessly for a while. Tried using a rubber mallet to "tap" while pulling the oil cap, still nothing. Im tempted to use a screwdriver and hammer it into the seals to pop it off, but dont want it to slip under and hit anything inside the engine or crack something thats not meant to be cracked, etc. Not a lot in the user manual that's different to the guide on here.

Any suggestions?

I dont think I have a crowbar small enough to get in between the top cover and bottom housing/cover, nor will a screwdriver fit in to pry it up. Tried lifting it with the crane, too. No luck, the engine just got lifted along with the stand. Also, would a crowbar not damage the gasket?

I am, and im doing it on a 17 year old student's budget

Id rather not pay for sh*t that I already have hahah. Theyre about $60 arent they? I know that sounds stingy but if I just break sh*t all the time that doesnt need to be broken then its all gonna add up real quick. Not to be a tight ass but itd be stupid to spend more than is necessary on a reco.

Not a mallet, a 4 pound lump hammer. It won't be the last time you use one during this process either ;)

Youre more than welcome man. Anyone who wants to see how things work or take some sh*t apart is welcome to have a look. As long as I actually learn from it, unlike our last DIY day

Not yet. Will be a while before I start buying parts.. Im just gonna look through the engine and learn how to take it apart and put it together a little bit first. Will be a while before I have the money for it.
