Sorry guys if this topic dublicates..this is because i have only 10 mins as i'm suppose to work in the office

Just a very simple question for most of you guys
Can anyone name me some of the reputable, reliable and reasonable FTO specialists in QLD (with location please?)

There is;

Joe & Rick's - Southport, Gold Coast - you'll find their website on google - search for nihon car parts or nihon auto parts or their ph no. 5532 0706 (Also, if you search the forums you will find what people have said about them - Pretty much all of it is good news.
Nundah Mitsubishi - Nundah, Brisbane - Can't find their number, but it'll be in the yellow pages, or www.yellowpages.com.au

Nundah Mitsubishi - I have not been there myself, but am planning to book my car in sometime this week. I have been told that they're one out of the two Mitsubishi workshops in QLD which can tune an FTO properly, they also have FTO mechanics.

I'm considering them over Joe & Rick's down at the coast, purely because they have all of the right Mitsi diagnostic tools and electronic equipment to test my car properly and make sure that it is done right. The only thing I'm concerned about is, if they fix my car, they may only want to use genuine Mitsubishi parts & possibly have to order them from Japan. This is something that I will have to discuss with them before I book my car in. Might be better off getting the engine and electronics done at Mitsi - Nundah & all the rest done at Joe & Ricks.

Though, I'm kinda being a tight arse and wanting to get the parts and do it all myself to save money & to learn how to do it as well..

I would love to hear from anyone who has put their FTO in for a service at Mitsubishi Nundah & has any war stories or opinions of them.

what exactly are they going to tune? I think the diag. tool is only just that.

As for parts...most are avaliable locally, covered a fair few times that the FTO uses Galant parts in many instances.

Most basic parts are avaliable from Repco anyways...gaskets, belts etc and stuff are easy to get for the 6a12. Even if u get OEM its over the counter. For the rest we know where to get this also.

Generally u will be fine. Just take it to someone who has a clue, and knowing what they pay mechanics at OEM places...I wouldnt take it there.

Khunjeng you might be right but beware..there're still some crappy sh*t workshops that think they are capable of doing everything.

Here's one of my personal experience:
I bought an aftermarket monster tacho from overseas and hence looked up for someone who can install that for me. I went to D** performance to install it and they proposed that they can do it within 2 hours. And then guess what. We ended up spending 6 hours which splited into 2 days to do it. Final word is, they were not able to intall it. We tried the dashboard rpm + engine sensor + computer and still could not make it. I wonder what the hell is going on?

Extras:
My fto's transmission had a major failure 2 days ago down at the coast. And it is still in the workshop Russells Automatic Transmission Specialists in Ashmore..anyone heard of them? well the RACQ guy told me that they are really good and he had his soared fixed there too. they seems pretty efficient, i should be able to pick up the car in couple days time. and this shall cost me $2230. F***!

The previous owner of my fto told me that Motive performance at coopers plain is pretty good.but i guess we need someone to share thier experience too..

Hey,

I decided not to go with Mitsibishi Nundah - I called to book the car in & the guy in the service department told me that they don't have any "FTO Specialists" & never have, & that they don't touch the import cars. This is after the previous girl told me that they have trained FTO Mechanics & swore to me that their mechanics are "one of the best" for FTO repairs & servicing - What bullshit...

But yeah, anyone can say they can do the work, but not many would actually be able to..

My suspension, droplinks, bushes & CV boots (maybe joints) need replacing - going to buy the parts & do it myself - 'tis the only way to know that its getting done & only have myself to blame if it doesn't get done properly, lol (might not be such a good thing)

My car should go in for a service soon... the place that it was getting done at prior to it's sale has changed management and mechanics I believe... so now I'm really at a loss of where to go :S

Thanks, I hope you find somewhere to get the work done, try Joe n' Ricks if you can get your car down the coast & have it off the road for a few days

I've got some mates who know their stuff that I can get to come around and help out with it, so its kinda more about getting the time to do it...

Comments on experience:
A couple of things regarding Joe & Ricks and FTO mechanics in general.

1. Correct tunning and diagnotics of a stock FTO can only be done with a MUT II handset from Mitsubishi, there were some "linux" based tools floating around from FTO UK clubs and WA club but I'm not sure where this ended.

2. Joe and Rick, Well its mainly Rick as I dont recall seeing Joe for the last 5 years. The have a Factory Mechanic (name Uki I think, name escapes me 12am!) he's pretty handy and knows all the "usual" faults, they don't have any serious diagnostic equipment, although the whilst I was there they were able to do something that put the ECU into diagnostic mode and causes error codes to be blinked out on the Dash panel. Rick are pretty much reluctant to order new parts from Japan, and lately seem to "refurbish" a lot of stuff. I would suggest these guys if you have a mechanical problem, but if its electrical or ECU related forget it, also try and force them to use only "new" parts as some of their "refurbished" parts dont last and the difference in costs is not worth it from experience.

3. I've used Nundah mitsubishi and from experience they do a good job but charge like a wounded bull, as soon as you drive in with an FTO they seem to start drooling over your wallet. Also most of the time they let the apprentices work on your car which sucks, you can try and insist that a senior mechanic works on it but unless you stand there and watch them there are no asurances. On the plus side they have a MUT II & III on the down side each time I've called them they have different stories about if they have the license / config file in the MUT II to talk to the FTO.

MUT II = diagnostic handset that plugs into the ECU port under the dash.
it list the log of faults on the ECU as well as engine running information from internal sensors.

4. Realistically I've had my FTO for 6 years and never had it on a MUT II properly, the Toowong Mitsubish guys have a MUT II & III and tried to use it but could only get limited information out of it regarding basic error codes as they didn't have the FTO license / config in it. Either way my FTO runs fine without it. Joe and Ricks are good for Mechanical and relatively cheap for unknown fault finding, if your know what you need to get done though, shop around as it us usually cheaper and better quality else where.

i want to find a local mob cos... well something about me not wanting to limp all the way down to the coast 2 c rick and joe, considering that my car has idel/rev problems (i look like a tool at every set of traffic lights, i'd be lined up after a bus with a van next to me, and i'd be ideling at 2.5k, and ppl in the van would look at me and give me the "wtf r u trying to race me" look) lol

hey sam, your tuner is in springwood right? do they do normal grease monkey work as well (i.e. fix cars)? or r they all la-di-the if your car is stock we dont want to know u kind? lol

They dont normally do it, but they have a guy next door who does a lot of their work..

yeh id like to find someone around the mt gravatt - or even capalaba area who could take care of my car... i just got all my parts from mitsubishi.. which i have done a minor service on myself but i want it tuned.... i dont trust mitsubishi mt gravatt.. to many apprentices running around for my liking...

Maybe try FIST audio and performance at wacol. They have done some hardcore work to many cars. Have a look for their website through google..
