Oh my god..
The story is about my trip to the Gold Coast on last Friday.
It was alright and we stayed up till Sunday.. and then guess what.
On my way back to Brissy my fto's transmission stuffed up!
Neutral signal kept flashing while i'm running in 3rd gear..and whenever i stopped it doesnt swift to the 1st gear. Tiptronic is not working..etc etc.
It was such a painful experience especially when you're away from town.
RACQ guy came and he couldn't help much. We decided to get to the nearest workshop..i made it - Russells Automatic Transmission Specialists a.k.a RATS
Have anyone here heard of them? I don't really know them but the RACQ bloke told me that they are really good. This morning they gave me a buzz and finalized the price.. $2230 to fix it due to the major failure in 2nd and 4th gear.. according to what they said the gearbox was burnt..
Bad luck, maybe it's about time..

Wow.... and not wow at the problem, wow at what BS you've been spun by these auto trans a*seholes.
It goes into third when there is a problem - its called 'limp mode' & it is to avoid any further damage that may occur under normal use - it certainly does NOT mean 2nd & 4th have been burnt out... thats the biggest load of horse wallop I've heard all day
Most common problems with FTO tip boxes is sensors dying or the more expensive torque converter failing.

Whoa. really? I cant stand places that rip off people and try and get away with it.
Go back and serve it to em.
If they knew the prob and trying to overcharge... arseholes
If they mis-diagnosed... they shouldnt be dealing with transmissions... assholes.
Very unlucky though.
Best of luck getting ti fixed

Geezzzzzzzzzzz this thing is getting serious.
The RACQ dude didnt get any commission from them b'coz he was uncertain at the beginning of how and where to fix my car, i guess he was trying to help.
Now what do i do? But initially i assume it is a transmission failure too because the RACQ guy tested the transmission oil and there's burning smell on it.. And not long ago whenever i stopped the car i smell some burning too, however my mate told me that's the brake pad..
Is there any way to persuit the fact of what is going on the car? This is so hopeless!! But thanks guys for the replies!

If the TC had died he would have no drive Ben, and no reason to go into limp mode. Best bet is a sensor.Bennoz wrote:Burning smell usually means torque converter. Ring the shop & tell them to check it
Monkey, tell them how to get diagnostic codes from the car. Theres a write up on here somewhere and also in Grease Monkey on the ftooc UK site. It will tell them how to extract and read the codes and what they mean.
Hopefully it will then save you squillions of dollars.

Really? I dont disagree, just have seen a few cars out here limp their way into garages with 'that' smell to find the converter about to fall out....Storm wrote:If the TC had died he would have no drive Ben, and no reason to go into limp mode. Best bet is a sensor.
Oh well, you heard the man Monkey, get 'em to check the codes (as descibed in the link in my above post) and see what they say.
Kinda scares me that they wouldn't check that kind of thing anyway.... just about every other mitsi auto box on the road these days will go into limp mode if something is amiss... im talking Lancers, Magnas & Mirages.

Ask around and find a good transmission place...use the net to search other forums. Once you have found one...stick to it - its worth the extra effort to find some1 who will tell u whats going on.
My guys are far away and a bitch to get to...but i wouldn't trust anyone else and i have been to a few places in the past. not only will they use the wrong oil, they dont check some of the basic things that give you feedback regarding whats going on.
Another good thing to do if your unsure is some Used Oil Analysis on you GB oil.
