New gal, need some tips on fuel consumption

Hi guys!

I'm trying to decide between a '97 Prelude or an FTO GPX 1995 model.
Something that is bothering me is fuel consumption. I have a 120km round trip drive to work five days a week and do a lot of country km's.

What kind of fuel economy do you guys get? I JUST WANT ONE! SUCH a sexy car!

you should get 500kms easily for mostly highway drive,

persoanlly I get about 600 on the hwy. I have a holiday house down your way and I get about 640 constantly.

The standard figures released with the 95 GPX:

10.4 km/L (Auto)
12.0 km/L (Manual)

Note that these figures are kilometers per litre, not litres per 100 km.

And before anyone comments, yes these are the figures for a new FTO, not one that is 12 years old!. Figures will vary from car to car!.

It all depends on how you drive your car, but on a highway drive I can get a little bit over 600km from 1 tank.

Personally myself Including M5 Four times a week and Around My Town :

I get 480-500kms sometimes 450 depends on how you drive.

Mostly city (suburban anyway) driving here, rarely over 80km/h to and from work, but I occasionally hit the open road for a long drive or cruise on weekends, and I regularly get around 600km per tank.
Yes I use mivec (Just coz I dont go over 80, doesnt mean I cant get to 80 fast)
And I use 98 RON fuel.

Its no wonder I never have any money

I get anywhere from 390ish to 440ish kms city driving. Best I've had on country roads is 550. Damn cams!

Thanks so much guys, that is sooooo helpful (better news than I expected!)
I drove my first FTO yesterday. The guy who was selling it doesn't own it and it had no insurance so I had to drive it like an old woman! Don't feel I really got the true "FTO experience". Still, I'm in love...they are not tall though are they? I'm 5 "11 and the top of my head clears the roof by about 1 mm

There is adjustment in the seat to make it go lower... trust me, Im 6'5"

Im lucky to get 300-350 with some light driving.
Drove down the coast the other day... gave it heaps the whole way down. And i mean heaps...
Worst i got was 100km used 3/4 of a tank..
And the poor car hates me... buhhaahha
Cams?? Try some 390cc Injectors and Walbro Fuel Pump.
Then boot it and watch the fuel disappear!

Interesting, the same 2 cars I ended up narrowing my selection down to when I was shopping, except the Prelude was a '98.

I only get 350 to 400, but it's pretty much all city driving in an auto with MIVEC. Auto does make a fair difference around town, looks like lots of the people posting so far are manual. Oh, and doesn't help that i drive it like I stole it...

Get the FTO, you won't be disapointed.

He he, wait till you've got passengers in the back and you hit a big bump...
It's great when you get the thump of head vs glass in stereo

Haha, I had a mate of mine in the back & after a solid hour of thumping his head into the glass, I noticed he left an imprint of the back of his head on the glass in hair gel. 6 months later when I decided to clean it off, I find that the sun has cooked the oil in the gel & it bubbled my tint in the shape of his head!

Lol... Yeah i didnt think i'd care too much about fuel when i did this.. but Considering i used to be able to chuck $20 in and get a few days worth, now thats gone in going to work and back (about 2km ea way) and a trip to the shops.

A full tank will get me to the GC, drive around a bit and back up (about 300km) with some normal driving. (i.e off boost) but once that needle goes out of vacuum and onto boost... put it this way...
With no electrics on (i.e. headlights, sound system etc.) My voltmeter drops in time with the boost going up (down about 1.5V at least) just from the fuel pump going crazy.
