strange grinding sound from front left
hey guys,.. i just have small issue that has popped up recently
(1997 manual gpx)
i have noticed a rather audible grinding sound coming from my front left around the wheel or gearbox region when turning and putting down some acceleration.
for example,.. I was in a carpark that had a slope in it, and i was letting my car just roll around in continuous full lock circles both to the left and the right, and there was no grinding sound. Then the moment i begin applying the accelerator, i get a grinding sound from the front left, and it also seems that it can be felt in the steering,.. it seems to feel like something is retarding the wheel spinning...
i dont know if all that really makes a sense,.. i cant seem to figure out what it is,.. as far as i can tell, nothing is rubbing on anything.
any pointers would be well appreciated,..
thanx

Seriously could be a lot of things. Just about impossible to tell with out seeing the car unless someone has had this exact same problem but even still may not be that. If you want to investigate yourself i suggest you jack the front of the car up. Start the car and get someone inside the car to simulate what you were doing to cause this grinding (turning the wheel side to side with slight accelaration. While they are doing that go round to wheel and look to see if you can see the problem (KEEP ALL LIMBS and BODY AWAY FROM THE VEHICLE OR UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE AT ALL TIMES)
POSSIBLE CAUSES
Brakes could be rubbibg
Stuffed C.V joint.
Wheel rubbing on shock
Stuffed gearbox
Stuffed shocks stuffed bushes
If it doesnt make the sound while its in the air would leave me to believe it is shock or bush related.... but im not a doctor

CHRISTIANITY: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...

Re: strange grinding sound from front left
Here's me, resurrecting relevant threads again.
I seem to have noticed this issue. It almost sounds like the tyre scrubbing the liner, but like above it happens when I accelerate. Not all the time, I think most notably at lower speeds. Might have to get Tim to check it out.

I think he's insinuating that I didn't actually request anything in terms of what the hell it might be.Astron_Boy wrote:^Bennoz wrote:Thanks for letting us know

Not to be insistent, but nobody's got any clues about this one?

Thought you answered your own question/statement.
THAT is what Ben meant.

Ahhhh, my brain is obviously not functioning, and although I think I should know what you're saying I'm failing to comprehend it to the degree that I'd feel confident answering like I know what I'm talking about. *inhales*Astron_Boy wrote:http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/the_f**kbjk wrote:Not to be insistent, but nobody's got any clues about this one?

tl;dr: what do you mean?
If, as I think you may be suggesting, is that it is in fact the guard liner, I have reason not to think so, because I think it's making the same noise at startup, and when driving in a straight line over a smooth road and giving it a little throttle.
