My new toy....MK1 Supercharged MR2
Yes, sadly the FTO has been gone to another home, and it shall never be forgottern!
However, there is a new (or older) kid on the block.....

150km's, factory supercharged targa top, aftermarket pully running approx 12 pounds of boost (up from stock 8lbs), complete respray done about 8 months ago. Light weight, no power steering (doesn't need it), mid engined goodness....
F#$KING WICKED!!!
Just ask the guys from the cruise on the weekend. And that was my first proper run in the car since getting it, so I have no idea just what it can do.
Bought to do some track stuff next year once brakes etc upgraded, not that they lack for street driving, but circuit is something altogether different.
Will be doing some vids from on-board once I get the camera and mount sorted, and will be on cruises in the future of course!

Not exactly my style but you're obviously loving it, which is what matters
Gratz! It'd be a lot of fun as a track car

Well, I have only really just got it, had it for a few weeks but not really had the chance to test it out.
But from early impressions - yes, it is as good as everyone says.
The steering is bordering on telepathic - everything is so precise and direct. And you can carry so much speed into a corner its mad.
Have driven turbo's in the past, and they are very very quick, but for the purity of it, you just cant go past a mk1 IMO.
Oh, and agree, the grey is HOT!!! But there are so few around that are good, and factory s/c's are rare as hens teeth these days for sale, so you take the best that you can find.
Oh, and the 5zigen exhaust on it is quite nice sounding too. Not as good as an FTO naturally (man I miss that sound) but it certainly makes a good noise!
Oh, and have I mentioned the supercharger whine behind your head....
So as you can tell, quite taken by it. As sson as I stop, I just want to drive it again.

Well, the price was $7000, but given the condition, low km's, and scarcity, wasn't terribly upset by that. And who cares anyhow, so long as you enjoy them, thats the main things with cars like ours.
As for mods, not going to change the s/c, plan on keeping it fairly simple as don't really plan on having it for very long, just one of those cars that I have always wanted really so while I have the chance....
But, slotted brakes with good pads, move the battery to the front and fit a better intercooler and piping, CAI (the air filer is, and I'm not joking, accessed in the boot!!), lightweight racing seat (have a mate probably selling one), possbly semi slicks, but really just see what happens, $$$ etc. Nothing major, just a few minor mods.
Oh, one of the first things though - the bushes need replacing as a bit noisy. But can get the full set of aftermarket bushes in the US for $105, with $50 shiping. Just a shame the dollar is sh!t these days....

Speed wise - ie straight line - there isn't a lot in it if both were really going for it. It might be a little quicker, but thats not really the point. The real difference is where the power is available. With the S/C, the power is just there all the time as it's working from basically idle.
So in normal driving, the MR2 is easily punchier (in s/c form anyhow). The N/A's are a bit slower of course.
And yeah, some of them are way cheap, but as I said, finding a good s/c is tricky. They are getting old after all. There was another white one I drove that was just not altogether there. It was an engine swap into an '86, looked clean and all, but it just didn't feel right.
The other thing is though, the s/c engine already forged internal, so it's very easy to change to turbo. The s/c has a lot going for it though, unless dyno figures are your thing.

hey bro, nice choice in car!
i drive an MR2 myself. i've got an SW20 though (MK2).
the MK1s are a cool little car. a bit too boxy looking for my liking, but it's the older brother of my car so i've gotta give a little respect there
the MR2s handle better than any other car i've ever driven. mostly because they're one of the only mid-engined cars that doesn't have a $300k+ price tag
not the quickest car on the road but the supercharger will help enjoy it man.

i've got a few reasons for the change, but the main one is that I need more than 2 seats.
anyway, i'm pretty and like boys and also a proud member of the mr2 vic club and Skyline AU at the moment) so I hope everyone is as awesome as you because i definitely plan on attending events in the future.
