So you want a hairdryer on your FTO? Or do you already have a hairdryer in it? This is the section for it. All other big power projects & forced induction goes here too.
Si a few months ago I decided there wasnt much more to do to the car and I still wanted more power so said lets go down the Forced induction route. and slected a IHI RHF5 turbo as the means of power.
Im a good bit down the line here with completion due at the end of Jan so Its more of a breef than anything along with details of what i did.
Starting off before my conversion here was what I had.
1997 Mitsubishi GPX
209 BHP & 156.7 LBS (DYNO PROVEN)
To get the Car running safely and effectivlyalong with performance in mind iv fitted .
5Zigen Pro Racer Spec A Exhaust
De-Cat Pipe
Apexi ECV
IHI-rhf5 /td05(Hybrid) (Bigger housing, quick spool up with a bigger topend than the normal TD05)
Blitz Intercooler,
Trust Oil Cooler,
Greddy E-Manage,
Oil Catch Can,
3:2:1 Manifold
Custom Downpipes
Custom intercooler Piping
Uprated Injectors
Additional Injector
Upgraded Walbro Fuel Pump
semi organic Clutch
HKS Boost Controller
HKS Additional Injector Controller
i still am looking at doing this, i notcied you havea gpx so the mivec engine what have you done with compression issues and oil starvation to the heads?
iv reduced the compression to 9:1
by adding a 1.1mm aluminium shim plate to the heads.
I went for the slightly weaker setup where there is 4 faces to loose compression from 4 faces than 2 but it woould blow out in the event of large buildbup of pressure where it could cause damage to pistons or conrods so could protect me in the long run
a lot of people seem to go for 8:5:1 but iv gone for 9:1 as i feel 8:5:1 seems a tad too low for a 2L
Also Went for a multi layered gasket y adding a shim rather than a single decompression gasket. This is a stronger setup but does leave 4 faces to leak from in worse case scanario. But if things go bad and theres too much pressure building up the extra shim will blow out saving my bottom end.
So rather than a new engine its a case of repairing a leaking head gasket

ahh i see, what thickness shim are you using and also what thickness gasket? What are you going to do about MIVEC? If you change the head gasket by yourself rekon you could write up a DIY for me? :p
ill see what i can do.
im not down to do it my mechanic is but ill be there doing other stuff so might be able to take a few pics.
or ask him what hes doing.
I didnt want to do it myself as i wouldnt feel safe doing the timing belt.
im using standard 0.9mm thick gaskets
with a 1.1mm thick aluminium shim plate.
i had aluminium ones made as there the same as the block and will heat up, cool down, expand and contract all at the same time hopefully preventing any leakage.
