Fold in mirrors

Post by dstocks »

Well, I thought it would be easy to install fold in mirrors on my GPvR, but in hindsight, this would have to be the most ambitious mod ive tried. Mitsubishi strike again. bits of the loom are missing and so is the controller and some of the plugs are different. But after splicing about 10 wires into the loom and changing over the plug behind the mirror switch and the ones on the mirrors in the doors, it actually works. I must admit im feeling smug, because after 2 days effort studying wiring looms and bending at impossible angles under the dash, ive actually managed to get it to go. Next, ill be doing the central locking mod to have them fold in automatically when I activate the central locking. Was thinking that it would be better to have them fold in when the ignition goes off, but not sure that this is possible.

Was thinking about doing a guide for this, but given the amount of effort it has taken im not sure if there is anyone else crazy enough to want to do it!

nup, no fold in mirrors. Supposed to be a weight saving, but the combined weight of all the parts would be equivalent to a couple of tinnies.

Dont have climate control either. Been thinking about that too, but ive looked into the wiring for that already and its even more ambitious again.

By the way, if the car had the switch for the fold in mirrors, does that mean its safe to assume i have electric folding mirrors ?

my car has the switch but the mirrors dont do anything, it might be just the copper bits that need to be fixed which i can do, but i just wanna ask just in case.. some cars might actually have the switch but the option might not have been included but is ready for it.

could just have faulty mirrors or switch. my 2nd fto's switch wouldnt do anything with the left mirror, but the right would slowly fold up halfway.

i might just bail on this, the switch is fine, its just the motors of the mirrors might have gone weak. or the circuit contactors.
