my mate thinks it would be a good idea but would it work??

Anything can work if you throw cash at it ...
I would go GTO brakes... Only reason I say that is they are good factory 4 spot calipers, and I have seen them bolt them on to Evo III/GSR's as an upgrade ... You just have to be careful what rims you have, as you need some clearance...
Many people when they are thinking of brake upgrades don't take that into consideration...

Bit over kill for an FTO, especially if you don't have major mods. Apart from getting really nice pads/rotors which are fine for general track use, the UAS brake upgrade seems pretty good.
