Remote Turbos?

I was having a look at Wikipedia earlier, looking for info on motor oil and seeing if there is any effect from changing <trails>... ...
Anyways, I eventually found a link there on Remote Turbochargers, then found this site. Has anyone ever done any research into these items? The theory is pretty sound, although there will be a lot of lag. But as for being able to run an un-intercooled turbo system on a factory engine (I can see all of the GPX owners' ears pricking up now) is something that could be interesting...
