I haven't been able to fully investigate yet but I guess it's probably the most likely thing. Hmmm, I wonder if the dealer warranty will cover a new stepper motor if needed.
Check the engine codes & also check out the spark plugs .. could be early signs that they're on their way out & it's easy enough to do.
