ok so im abit confused about how to read the offset and what will fit properly on FTO's

there are some rims im thinking of getting and they have specified: 215,45z,17

will this fit on an fto comfortably?

It depends on the offset.

What offset are they?

this was all they said in the ad:

offset 215,45z,17

is this not the offset?

they are the dimensions of the tyre

215 is the width
45 is the profile
17 is the rim size

offset is given as a +??, forgot what offset is best for the FTO

I think my 18's are +37

17x7 inch wheels should be +42 offset
tyre size should be 215/40x17

my rims are 17x7 +35 and that fits easily, been trying to find some lightweight rims with a lower offset anyone know whats the lowest offset youve seen and pics? i cant seem to find anything online.

Ive tried my friends 18x9 +23 on the rear and that fits but hoping i can get something slightly more aggressive, the same rim wont fit on the front coz its rubbing on the strut. Hopefully when i get coilovers in, it wont rub.

I think the factort rims are a +38 if that helps

ok so there have been a range of offsets from +35 to +42 mentioned

im guessing anything in between that will fit okay and not require spacers?

what occurs if you have a wrong offset? will it simply not fit or will it effect the driveability of the car or effect its performance in any way?

no doesnt work that way sorry basically as a rule
17x7 offset is 42 (but there is more range as more clearence)
18x8 offset is 35 and will prob require spacers changing the offset from there can result in hitting strut or sticking out of guard too far

basically the best thing to do is test fit the wheels you are after, your pretty safe with 17s but 18s as said can be a pain so you may need spacers and may get rubbing

17x7 +42
17x7.5/18x7.5 + 38/+35
17x8/18x8 +35
17x9 +30 (i've trialled these on the rears and the edge of the rims stick out by 3mm and i was running 5mm spacers on tha back)

thats all safe offsets that i have trialled to my own car and all have fit fine. 8' wide scrubbed on my front walls but i had bigger tyres on. too low an offset and you'll be hitting the spring, too high and they'll stick out heeps.

Its the other way around, too high an offset and you'll hit the strut, and too low will result in a mexican look.

maybe go for a lower offset for the front or lower offset with a 8' or 8.5' wide wheel.but you'd get the mexican look for sure on the 9'.
