so after wanting a bike for what seemed like a lifetime, i maned up and did the stay up right course and the dkt. it was so easy, does my head in thinking how people could possibly fail.

had a look at a few bikes before i settle upon one. most of the honda cbr250rr had something wrong with them internally or exterior-wise... and there was no way in hell i was going to get a 125 besides the aprillia. Most 125 just looked like girl bikes and i wanted something that at least looked a bit beefy when your on it.

so i settle on a Kawasaki GPX250r ninja
bone stock with 8900kms on it... has a few scratches from being dropped by the last owner but it never fussed me. i dropped in on the first night i got it coming to a hard stop on the m2 exit.

it will get a two new mufflers, its loud stock but not ''safe'' loud

ive already put 2000km on it since i got it, preety much just practicing and daily commuting... its so fun

having trouble finding a place that does on for it. AFAIK Muzzy and Yoshimura are the only manufacturers who still make them... and most are from the states

ahhh the forgotten thread. well a bit of an update.

- bought a limited addition Dianese santa monica leather jacket. apparently design by Rossi, its real italian made and 1 of 20 in aus
- blue rim tape
- stickers lol

and 1hr ago stacked the bike but thats nothing without a story so here it goes...

came home from the late shift arriving home i realised i left my phone at work. so i quickly jumped on the bike and hooned my way back to work.

retrieved my blackberry and decided i'd take the suburban-twisty way home. all was good, the ipod was on, no cars around at all.

(ive recently grew the balls to lean the bike enough to constantly scrape the footpegs and have been working on shredding the sidewalls of my rear tyre - the sidewalls are called ''chicken strips'' by the motorbike world. if youve got stacks of tread on the side walls, you dont lean the bike enough or can't, or choose not to)

anyways... corners were smooth and the pegs were sparking the road. i was having a ball

till the last 5mins of my trip where on impulse chose a different road to go down then my usual route. the corner was coming preety fast and i was busy rev-matchin and downshifting through my gears whilst rear braking. i ran a tad wide although there was still plenty of room, i leaned over more to sharpen the turn and whilst doing so the bikes rear end wash out from under me.

i lowsided. i landed on my left shoulder which rolled me onto my chest... my helmet scraped the road for a few seconds and then i stopped. while i was slidding i could see the bike sliding aswell and could see the exhaust sparking agaist the road.

quickly got up and picked up the bike. had adrenalin pumping by that time so it was like lifting a feather. left it for a while to have a ciggy and survey the damage.

there was hardly any i had:
- snapped the left foot peg in half
- scrape on the exhaust, clutch lever and handle bar
- 5cent scuff on the front fairing
- a bloody knee and probly a dislocated thumb

thats it!

my jacket and helmet preety much have no damage at all considering i landed front first.

fkn cheering and actually happy my first fall happened like this. despite some cosmetic scrapes it was actually a fun ride home

Have you got any Ogy knobs on the bike... Was one of the first things I put on after I had an accident on my old GS500 ...

Good to hear that it was nothing serious though ... Otherwise Steve and I would have been taking you to Simon's Superbikes as well for replacement fairings...

Im glad you didnt do any further damage! Now ask yourself what you have learnt from your off and be wiser next time round.

btw have your tried drilling the baffle?

Yeh I learnt my lesson... No hard riding on cold nights.

I'm not going to touch the exhaust unless I buy slip-ons. I don't plan on keeping the bike long so drilling the baffles isn't a wise move.and having a stack like this and inevitable stacks in the near future is the whole reason I bought the little gpx anyway...

Will keep it untill I get my green p's and upgrade to a newer model bike for the green p 2 year period.

I took off the oem slip ons this arvo for the sake of it and rode for 15mins with it off... It was fkn loud but rode like a dog lol

Craig - I've heard conflicting stories with oggy nobs.. Some say they do more damage to some bikes as the cause the bike to flip at higher speeds when sliding. Some say because they get fixed to the chasis bars then can do structural damage...

I'm still on the fence with them... Don't really know where to mount them either

Yeah, I heard the same story ...

But, one of the reasons I got them .. Was that if the bike is damaged, and having the Ogy knob twists the chassis, then it is a replacement bike instead of a fixed crashed one...

I made sure I told the insurance company they were fitted, so they can not try to deny a claim if the "fairing protectors" damage any part of the bikes structure....

Although I have had a lot of friends with them, and have not had a complaint when they have come off... So yeah, like anything, I guess it depends on your speed... Most of them mount through one of the bolt wholes that your fairing is attached to .. On my bike they fit with no modification ... But I know on the earlier model gixer, they had to make a small cut in one of the fairings to fit...

chicken strips are nothing to do with the riders ability, its just the dirt build up on the walls of the wheel.

Its how much tread you have left... Look at a tyre and you'll see the indent lines where the water drains out of the tyre... And compare it to a chicken scratching dirt... chicken strips mean the your wearing away the flat tread and the water indents aren't deep anymore..
