My install is all done now

Sounds pretty sick.

So in a definitive answer (for me) to this thread, I used velcro to mount the sub to the floor. It's also wedged in by the 6x9 magnets, the lip of the back seat metal, the amplifier (which in turn is screwed to the boot floor) and finally by the strut brace. So I don't think it's going anywhere lol.

The best way to mount a sub is to :-
1. grab the sub and box with both hands move it to the center of your boot.
2. step back and see if it is in the center of the boot and that nothing is hooked up on it.
3. step back to the boot.
4. grab sub and box with both hands again (make sure that your knees are bent so you don't do your back in)
5. Now with a big grunt chuck it over your shoulder as you don't need it, a good set of 6X9 4ways will do a great job
and best of all they weigh approx 40+kgs less

Well mines more like 50kgs the sub it self with out the box is 35kgs lol and personly don't think a good set of 6x9s will out do a sub not in a fto mayb in a hatch I have a set of kicker 6x9 in my old corolla it shook the mirror in this wouldn't do sh*t if you enclosed the 6x9s underneath u would get a deeper sounding speaker atm I don't have my sub in plan on fb a wheel well sub when I can be stuffed

This is the sub as it sits behind the strut brace. It's a Kicker TCVT124:



From another angle. Note that although the carpet colour looks seriously mismatched, it looks a lot worse in the photo. I think it looks fine in the flesh, and I can be picky about that sort of stuff lol:



You can see from this photo (sorta) that it doesn't actually sit wedged under the 6x9 magnets (didn't realise that until I took the picture). But you definitely need to force it in initially to get it under the magnets.



This shows the amp sitting next to the sub. It's a pretty tight fit but has the advantage of keeping everything audio-wise behind the strut brace, therefore keeping the boot useable:

Finally, a pic showing the amp wiring going through the floor. I reckon it's pretty neat, so I'm happy with it. This also explains why I went with new MDF boot floor and new carpet - cos I didn't wanna cut holes in the stock parts (first rookie error in car audio)

Got rid of mine a while back:

- Took up much of the little room we have available in the boot.
- A little overkill for the fto cabin which seems sensitive to even a little bit of bass
- Added a fair bit of weight (at least 40kg)

Was planning on putting some decent 4-ways for a little bass in the near future, my current sony xplode 3-ways will do until then

haha aza thats the funniest shiet ever haha I got that same setup in my ute atm, but just with seeing how well it fits into the boot with the strut bar in place i think i might .. copy? no not copy, replicate that Looks good, top job

Lol at people worried at 40kg, as if that makes a difference really.
Thats like saying a pile of clothes on my backseat is going to slow me down.

Also what kind of bass are you getting out of that smaller sub box?

Every kg lost, is equivalent to a 2kw gain..

hmm .. are you sure about that one? in theory I could strip 50kg out of the car & have 400+ kw

or a stock FTO could lose 50kg & have over 200kw

i custom made my sub box so it fits in that tight that i dont have to mount it, i have just under 20cm of space between the back of the boot and the sub box, and under 10cms above, ran 4 gauge under battery had to get underneath car and do a lucky drill through the passangerside firewall from inside, good place to mount earth is the rear strut towers and drill a hole in bottom of carpet.

still have a spare wheel and jack+tools only thing is takes minimum of 5 mins to get out

What kind of bass are you getting from that slimline box? Is it decent nicholas? Im not after head stomping bass,
after Sound Quality in this setup.

does anyone have pics of a nice boot build aside from the "ULIKE" install?

would love to see some pics of really clean installs in FTO's if anyone knows of some.. most are just a sub box in the boot & an amp on a plank of wood..

mines nice but kinda space saving and pratical its def a clean job me and a guy that has been doing it professionally for 10 years did it



theres space there i swear, pinky promise haha 19cms and there is 10 cms above subs

only did grey carpet to match rest of carpet(woulda replaced it all but is in as new cond so didnt wanna waste
