bit of ooolllddddd nostalgia. Perkins engines in the UK spend millions of pounds on these engines in the 1950's & 60's, eventually they quit them.
Hello mazda!
By then ceramics had arrived and they were able to control the wear on the rotors using new materials - this was the problem that Perkins couldn't fix apparently.

I am still waiting to drive my FTO - rego inspection! - still can't get my head around 200HP through the front wheels from 2.0 litres!

grrrrrrrrr hurry up hurry up!

feel like blackboard from Mr Squiggle!

They are a great car, maintenance wise, about the same as the FTO. Economical wise, well, not the best.
In ways of performance potentional, much like the FTO, without spending a 5 figure amount on a turbo or s/c, theres nothing to much you can do, even with replacing the exhaust, you MAY gain 5hp... But you have a look underneath one of these things, the exhaust has no bends in it at all, goes pretty much straight through. Same with the air intake, no real gains to be made there. These cars were really designed well.
Any questions feel free to ask!
