making the mivec mighty?

Post by millsy »

okay, im sure there are plenty of threads out there with the same questions, but i have decided to make the version R powerful without charging it, coz from what i understand, the compression is too high, so you cant get too many psi in it safely (waiting to see a 30 psi mivec, ha) but i am at the stage where i have done the ol' KandN pod and a duel twin tipped 2.5 exhaust with 2.5 performance cat.. i am fairly fast now, but would like to be really fast (or counter balance the subs, amp, and when people get in)..

so i am at the stage where i have just purchased a lightweight crank pulley (cheap bolt on, weather or not its effective it doesnt really matter for the price, its all experience). but what else can i do with a justified price? for example, i dont want to pay $1*00 for new heads or extractors if they only see 3 horsepower per mod..

i know im limited with the fto. so is it worth turbo-ing then? even if i prefer not to? or what other things can i do that is quite effective? i mite get a piggyback if anyone has a cheapy, like $200...

thanks guys, sorry about having a common thread, but i need personal experiences instead of theory. ta

You should start by enclosing your pod filter to make it a cold air induction setup.Secondly get the rpw extractors ,and rpw bored out throttle bodies then use a piggyback and get it tuned to run properly.Other than that there arent many aftermaket performance parts you can get for the fto.Valindise91 has gone the na route you should give him a pm.

Things you can do to power up an NA fto are:-
port and polish the heads
CAI
piggy back ecu
extractors and pipes
high flow cat
the list just keeps on going.
I am running 137kws atw's with out extractors and pipes so it can be done.

step 1. Get rid of subs and all associated wiring.

Speed cannot be had if weight is too great

But in a gp ver r, im already decently light, so the subs r a bit of a compremise, as i am still a bit lighter than a gpx. But tye type of piwer i need is for when i have passengers. If i strip everything i miye save 60kilos, but then i have a faster car which only i can enjoy, where a passenger would take me bak to being by myself with subs, ect. So i guess im getting at myself needing more power to haul my extra baggage (so im comfortable) AND still being faster than most supra's. Or too hard to ask with an fto?

Lack of torque is the problem. Not so much lack of power...

The best you'll do is add about 30kws from stock... and that'll cost you about 5 grand all up @ $166 per kw.

Spend the 10k, dump a factory turbo motor in. You'll get a 100 more kws @ $100 per kw.

If you just do a change over and nothing more then 10K would be right.

I am now starting to save up to chucking an EVO 8 motor in

Even if you do it on a budget I reckon you'll still be extremely lucky to get in under $10k
