Lambda with V6 FTO engine.

Post by Gholdwayne »

Pretty cool since this the fto engines have that nice growl and match nicely with a classic.

But I can't really tell if its a mivec or not:

I think its a mivec motor because the oil cap is on the left side but the engine cover looks different and the cam gears are facing the firewall lol.

I thought it was the mivec when i saw where the oil cap was but look at where the ignition leads are running, shouldnt they be on the same side as the oil cap?

But i'd say it is a mivec and the manifold might be on the other way - look at where the drive belts are and the alternator.

The timing assembly is actually facing the front & the oil cap is under the intake manifold.
The intake manifold has actually been swung over 180 degrees - which is theoretically quite
possible if you 180 degree the lower section of the manifold that it bolts too. Pain in the ass
to top up the oil thou lol.

^ yeah but it looks like they've made up an oil fill hole which looks like it is using a radiator cap for a lid. Must have made that modification for the 'pain in the ass oil top up because of the manifold' reason.

is it ?! i dont remember seeing that on my rear bank. i know there is one on the intake side in neighboring where the manifold meets the heads. Hmmm. I guess they would have to make some special funnel to put the oil in without taking out the manifold.

I thought it was a 6a12tt to begin with which has its gearbox on the other side but it looks like a GR engine.

But why the fook would he want to change the manifold over? If the engine is sitting straight surely theres the same room at both sides of the bonnet

I reckon that he has swapped the manifold around because otherwise the throttle body wouldn't clear the firewall and this way it is at the front.

I also reckon he has plumbed the hoses from the coolant tower directly into the front mounted radiator and the coolant tower we see sticking up from the rear bank has been grafted onto the rocker cover to allow him a place to fill up with oil.

Quite clever really, except if he'd done it with a 6a13tt he'd be able to push it a bit further.

Better do some work now!
