97 GPX - Manual - SOLD

Post by pete_gpx »

I've been thinking about selling my FTO for a while now, feeling it's time to move onto something else as my open license is just around the corner. I had planned to fix the little things wrong with the car and hopefully get a decent amount of money for it, but I have my eye on a few cars that I'm interested in (won't mention the type on here...) and would like to see it gone. The car is located in Toowoomba, Queensland, about an hour and a half from Brisbane. Details as follows;

Price:
$7500

Mileage:
165 XXXKMs

Modifications:
TS blended facelift front bar (from the Dstocks group buy)
Veilside series 1 sideskirts
Veilside series 1 rear bar
Despoilered boot lid
BC Gold series coilovers (height, damper and camber adjustable)
Cusco front and rear upper strut braces
Simota pod filter + home made cold air feed
2.5" cat-back exhaust with an Apexi canon muffler (reasonably quiet but growls when throttle is open)
Autotechnica front bucket seats (with a QLD mod plate)
MOMO steering wheel
NGK iridium spark plugs
Magnecor 8mm ignition leads
6000K HIDs on low beam
Mitsubishi GTO front brake conversion
16x8 R32 GTR rims, powdercoated white with Toyo tyres (almost brand new, tread is excellent)

The bad:
Engine is running a little rich and I'm honestly not sure why. It runs fine and makes plenty of power, however has always idled a little low. I have replaced ignition leads, spark plugs and O2 sensor recently, which has helped but not completely eliminated the problem.

Engine has an oil leak from the half moon seals on the right hand side. It is not a bad leak, only letting out one or two drops of oil on the ground if I park it for a few days, however it is there. I have the seals to fix this, which will be included in the sale, but I have never had the time to do it myself.

Interior has a few general wear marks here and there, although is not too bad.

Usual tappet noise.

Other details:
The car has had fresh paint pretty recently and shines well when washed. A few small scratches have popped up over the last few months and I will have the car professionally detailed before selling it, after which the paint should be almost perfect. I have a Unichip Type A aftermarket ECU sitting here that I was planning to have installed and tuned to get a few more HP that I did not ever get around to using. I'm happy to include this in the sale for the next buyer to use. I also have a few spare parts like extra door cards, full extra boot carpet, spare engine cover etc. that can be had with the purchase of the car. I will change the oil and oil filter before the car is sold with quality synthetic Penrite oil (all that has been used in it since I've had it). Car has only been run on BP Ultimate while owned by me. Aircon and all electrics on the car are fully functional.

Changed the oil with some full synthetic Penrite last night and replaced filter.

Car was detailed today by Prestige Auto Detailers up here and looks AWESOME. Kind of want to keep it now it's so shiny...

Honestly, I would if I didn't have to then get a new mod plate for replacing them with factory seats. They were getting a little sun faded, but the detailer actually applied some new dye to them so they look almost new.

Yeah, was planning to. Might throw some up tonight.

I've been offered a swap for a manual, turbo 180sx with a full Type X genuine kit etc. on it... Might end up taking that if the guy comes through.

Just put 2 brand new temp sensors in, one of which (ECU temperature sender) has eliminated the over fueling and idling problems. Car is running beautifully now!.

I don't know why I hadn't thought of this before to correct the car running rich. It only really occurred to me when the temperature gauge on the dash started behaving oddly and flicking around when I locked or unlocked the doors etc. After doing some research into replacing the sensor that the gauge ran off, I realised there were two temp senders, one controlling the gauge and another sending information to the ECU relating to how hot or cold the engine was to let it figure out how much fuel to supply.

The tappets are also a hell of a lot quieter now that a full flush and oil change has been performed.

Almost feel as though I should raise the price.

Only about $40 for both sensors from Cam Skill, however I paid $80 for express postage here, which only took two days for delivery.

Couldn't tell you about the power, as since it is out of registration at the moment, it's only driven quickly around the block and sat in the garage. No room to hit MIVEC in there. :P
