Hard Piping Option. Opinion's?

Post by d_dan »

Does anyone have a rough weight of an average hard piping?

I was thinking of remaking my hard piping in carbon fiber. Does anyone see any issues?

By hard piping are you referring to the intake piping or the various other pipes throughout the car?

If you are thinking intake piping, it is something I have considered but decided against. Carbon fiber is a very hard and very brittle material, it does not cope well with vibration. I would personally not like small fragments of carbon fiber + resin breaking free and entering my motor. If you are doing it for looks, fiber wrap aluminium piping and you will not have any issues.

I have a mate that is big into push bike riding, in the order of 10,000 km a year. I asked him about carbon fiber bike frames and he said that he had one and it cracked and came apart quite quickly. All decent bike frames that use carbon fiber have all sorts of other fancy alloys in them to withstand vibration.
