Spark Plug Gapping (GR)

Post by -Nighthawk- »

Hi guys,
Just reading up for when changing my spark plugs on an FTO GR. What is the recommend spark plug gap?

In the manual I think it says 1.0mm-1.1mm which from what I read, is way too wide.

I read up and some guy suggested 0.6mm for better performance. My new plugs are set to 0.9mm, should I just leave them at that?

Cheers

Last time i asked this question for my GPX i was told that just put them in as they come. Check that they are all at the same gap though incase the box was dropped etc.

Leave them as is. Gapping plugs is the realm of the old car owner & tuners.

Or buy irridiums next time... No gapping required :)

Good choice. Where did you get the Denso's from - and how much were they?

Not sure why you think you have a .9mm one though? Denso recommends 1.1mm gap.

According to their naming convention guide an IK20 would be a 1.1mm gap unless specifically requested to be a .8mm gap.

I got them from Camskill for about $65 less delivery.

They were specified to be non-mivec:

Should I be making the gap larger to 1.1?

I don't think it is recommended you gap iridiums. More likely you snap them than anything from what I have heard.

What makes you think you have .9mm gap though?
Is that just what you think from measuring yourself? Are there any product codes on the plugs?

Actually just remeasured. The 1.00mm fits in the space so I would say they are pre-gapped to 1.1 (the largest I have on the measurements are 1.0mm)

Though so. As the site says Denso spec for the IK20 is 1.1mm.
They should be fine :-) I noticed a nice improvement in economy with my Denso's so hope you get the same.

Hopefully, combined with some new magneto ignition leads 8.5mm it should go well :)
None of these have changed since I got the car, which is 2 years ago. So I think they are well overdue, I'll post a picture of old vs new.
