adjustable coilovers vs lowered springs

Just wondering what the advantages of adjustable coil overs would be over lowered springs... I figure that by the time i buy lowered springs and new shocks I may as well just fork out the $1300 or so for adjustable coil overs... could I get away with using the standard shockies and just buying lowered springs???

Take my advice(From someone who has coilovers):

If you don't track, just get something like:

Lowered Springs + aftermarket Shocks
BUT
If by some chance you find adjustable height shocks, go for it. I would.

Coilovers are going to be really stiff even on the softest setting! Hell I didn't mind it before but overtime I kind of got tired of it!

If I could go back, I would go for lowered springs then height adjustable shocks!

cheers for the help dude... where do you think would be the best place to source the parts? haven't really had any trouble finding lowered springs, but the shockies I can't find???

They are KYB Excel-G shocks - you can find these from major suspension shops

But as for Adjustable height shocks, not sure where to find them, im sorry

The height adjustable shocks pop up from time to time on yahoo japan. KYB did a "limited edition" run of them years ago I'm pretty sure. Only ever seen used ones though, nothing new.

roughly how much do u think it will cost me if I go for lowered springs and aftermarket shocks (not adjustable)??? planning on getting some work done on my exhaust as well, just not sure what I'm looking for... not too concerned with performance, just want a better sound at a reasonable cost... any ideas?

I think the springs+shocks inc labour can probably get to the $1000 mark?

With the exhaust, get something like a magnaflow oval muffler with twin tips;

Ask for an Axel-back if you are cheap
Ask for a Cat-Back if you are a good man

Never ever Ever.. EVER... get a cheapo generic cannon

If you must get a cannon, at least go for a quality one like Apexi, Fujitsubo, Varex, Etc...

If you are interested in more info on exhausts, I am one of your guys
aka I was anal with my own so i did too much research and such

Then again, that's only an axel-back. If the piping was changed + better resonators, it would improve.

Cheers Gholdwayne! me and my brother will put the springs and shocks in... If i go 2.5" mandrel bent from the cat-back with a magnaflow oval muffler like you said with the stock tip do you think it would sound alright... and how much do you think that will cost???

Not necessarily, you can probably go for a:
2.5 mandrel bent, 1 or 2 hotdog resonators, and something like a magnaflow oval muffler then go forth for about a month with the setup until the tone settles and see if you still like it... do some adjustments with resonator combinations (add/delete) until you get a sound you like

Nah scrap the hotdogs.. go 2.5" catback to sports muffler of some sort.
No cannons please though.
I've got 2.5" catback to sports muffler to my twin tips. Perfect sound, I've been told by many many people it sounds amazing.
I love it because, windows and foot down its well sporty, but windows and stereo up you can hardly hear it

Hey gholdwayne, the cats been bashed out on kates car, what do u reckon if i went 2.5" from the cat to the axel back piping which is also 2.5" with no resonators.

Would it be a good loud or a sh*t loud, i just want to bring it home and scare the sh*t out of her lol.

Matt, The closest car to that setup would probably be be vipfto's car, i thought it sounded good on idle and crawling speeds, but when you reach that 2.2kRPM sonic spike point, it will rasp like crazy... The overall tone will have more high end frequencies without the resonators especially with the freed up cat

Try no resonators for now with the magnaflow/varex oval dual tip for now and see if you'll need 1 resonator..
