It's about Brakes!

Post by Gholdwayne »

With the search function having amnesia  I cant search for more topics any better than what i'm doing now, skimming through sections!

Anyways, I thought It'd be good to start a thread for FTO brakes, or brakes in general.

First off, Brake fluid.... My pads have been replaced on all four corners, and slotted rotors on the fronts put in... Only thing left is to service the brake fluid....

Soooo... Is the correct amount of fluid 1L ? Im also interested to know what brand of fluid is good to use...

Motul dot 5.1 seems to be the recommended ones.

I went with TRW GP600 Dot 4 Racing Brake Fluid as a track day fluid.

I used Nulon Extreme Performance Brake Fluid - Dot 4 prior to this.
Me? Bitter? f**k no. I think it's hilarious.

I suppose I'll just go with the Nulon Extreme Performance Brake Fluid - Dot 4

Easier to get(autobarn, etc).

So i'll need 2 500ml bottles yes?

Depending on how bad your current fluid is, you might be able to get away with one, but for the price you may as well get 2.

You can always use the leftovers to bleed the clutch.

I think every 60,000k? phark if i know tbh

Apparently its not too hard a job, but it can get messy without the right things... I just felt like changing the brake fluid for peace of mind. And with a mechanic so I can watch how its done...

Every 2 years I would change the fluid or before a track day.

Not a hard job at all and there is plenty of info on google / youtube about bleeding the brakes.

So who here uses DOT 5.1 fluid in the FTO? And what are your findings?

DOT 5.1 fluid is simply a DOT 4 fluid with a higher boiling point.

For standard street use, a DOT 4 is fine. For track use, the TRW GP600 Dot 4 Racing Brake Fluid has a higher boiling point than the Motul DOT 5.1.
