colour license plate

Post by Connor_1994 »

i know this is a rather dumb question, but i thought id ask,
ive got a black fto and the general white with maroon writing license place, i cant really afford personalised plates, i was wondering if there was anyway to get a different colour plate,
cause im guessing its highly illegal to paint them, haha >)
although, i did that to my lights, hahahahaha :)

so i had a look, and in QLD if you want a different colour, its a personalised plate, so pretty much $500 for a colour, so i may as well save and get personalised plates, haha,
or spray paint them >.> hahahaha

Yes.. but from what I hear it is a different system.
We normally pay an initial fee (between $90-$2000) for our plates, then we pay a yearly fee to keep them, as they are still owned by the RTA (soon to be renamed).
From what I have heard, QLD personalised plates are purchased outright, with then no ongoing fee, and the plates can be sold on.
(I could be way off the ballpark here...)

You pay $90 a year? We Pay $415 one off, and its ours.

The other one is $2295 for a complete custom one.

Also, my previous owner painted (not spray painted) with his hand over the numbers on my front plate so its now black & white.

Not that I wear the front plate anymore, but when I used to i never got asked about it. If they do just say it was already like that when you bought it & didn't notice.

I don't know about QLD but in NSW you can be booked for having it in the window and not attached to the front bar.

both plates should be on the front and back of your vehicle, not in a window. noone should be getting away with it.

reason is, i'll say MOST cameras, whether for tollways or speed or red light pick up the number plate from the front and back bumpers. Certain windscreens reflect (i dont know the proper name for it) and the rego cannot be verified.

hope that makes some sense

I don't have a front numberplate and I drive my car everyday. Has been like that for like 4months. Been pulled over about 6-7 timres, none of the cops said anything about the front number plate, except for the last one told me it was a $80 fine and gave me a warning.

I have also had a warning about my rear p plate not being visible and he told me my tint is to dark (legal is 30%) mine is 5%.

okay then,
cause i remember something (few years ago now)
that u dont have to have a front number plate, only rear for cameras, and cops following u etc, which is funny cause my speeding ticket was a front view haha,
and my P plate is barely visible, never had anything said, i onlh got a warning on a baldish tyre no fine, just a warning cause some wanker called the cops on me for doing the speed limit while his kids play in the street, what nice people there are,
some people just try and start sh*t for no reason,
andyway, thanks for the comments guys,
especially kustom, maybe i wont get into any trouble like you haha, we'll soon find out,
