Removing gearbox

Ok, from the varied threads around on this site, sadly not enough detail.

Long story short, I need the gearbox out.
Apart from disconnecting hoses, driveshafts, starter and some wiring,
How do I go about dropping it from the car with the engine still in there?

I would normally remove the entire engine, but honestly, in this situation, perhaps it's simply easier.. (maybe) to remove just the box.



On a ventured guess, as I havent stuck my head under the hood of an fto for a while.

Remove cross member
Remove passenger side wheel/ suspension?
remove gearbox mount, undo bolts holding 2 together, slide off?

Missing something? Apart from how much of a sl*t this will be?

- Remove cross member & lower mount bolts
- Put jack under motor & get it level
- Undo gearbox top mount to car
- Undo all bellhousing bolts
- Lower jack down till motor is slanted approx 10 degrees
- Get in there & man handle the box off the spline
- Lower box onto ground below.

Easy. Done. Haven't even finished my tinny.

I set the new bench mark 2 weeks ago pulling q2cme's gearbox out

- Get in there & man handle the box off the spline

Highly doubt I'd have it done in that sort of time.

The greater fun will be putting the car back in the street (that's on a hill)

I just really hope it's the damn gearbox that's making this noise.

Are you going to sit in it, and roll it down the street with no gearbox to see if there is still a noise...

Noise only happens badly when I turn left hand corners, had a slight noise when travelling in a straight line, no noise at all turning right hand corners....

And I've done a long list of replacements to go past things it could be; with no resolve.

yep, as said, I've done a list of things, and still no joy.

I believe the problem is as Ben had with his gearbox initially before it imploded, and that's to say a bad bearing at the diff.
