Hi

Post by Fordman »

Hi to everyone,

My name is Mark, although i don't have an FTO I've put half of one in my Mirage. I stumbled upon this forum when looking for info as i've run into some slight dramas.
Engine and gearbox is installed. was told by a few people who have done this job before and was "told" the mirage driveshafts would fit the FTO box. LHF Fit perfect but the RHF is about 5mm from locking in. I suspect the FTO Spline is a little longer.
From various websites and forums i have worked out it's an LSD diff too. Engine and box is from 96 GPX FTO 5 speed.
If anyone can help in anyway that would be great, Info, Parts, etc.
Cheers Mark

Hi Mark, WTTC.

Your man is Bennoz! He knows more about FTO's than most, although there are allot of people on here that have excellent knowledge of the workings of the FTO alas, i am not one of those.

Hey mate, so you need an inner driveshaft stub axle yeah? Can you recall whether is a 25 spline fit or 27? The 27 is bigger in diametre.

I got bucket loads of gearbox bits & peices, should be able to work it out.

Where abouts you located?

I'm just south of Wollongong, Will go and count the splines shortly and get back to you.
Appreciate the help.

I'm after the 25 spline

This is what the mirage one looks like.
The FTO bearing just inside the gearbox is a lot narrower then the Mirage bearing. Hence shank behind the spline hits teeth before going in fully.
As a last resort it may be possible to machine 5mm of the shank back.

To be honest I thought the Mirage driveshafts would not fit as they are smaller than the FTO ones.
