i had a pretty modified nx as my showcar. spent just over $15,000 and i loved every minute i spent in it. one of the best cars i every had i'll post up some pics of it if u want for some ideas

I'll most likely be taking this on as a project car and daily-driver, leaving the Mighty Triton more for my offroad adventures and big trips.

First order of business: reco the gearbox, as Lawso has managed to lose not only 5th gear, but 1st and 2nd as well :lol: I've found a bearing and synchro kit on fleabay for around $300 delivered, but will wait until I get the rego passed before I order it (gotta love knowing people in low places :lol: )

Once that is done, I'll be looking into doing the timing chain, water pump and oil pump. Again, fleabay to the rescue!!!

Spark plugs and leads will probably get replaced at the same time as the timing kit, as well as a general service (all fluids + filters). As with any car, I'm starting from scratch. Don't really care if it's been serviced recently (no offense Astron_Boy) but it's for my own piece of mind. That way I'll know exactly when the service intervals need to be done, and can slowly order the parts necessary to rebuild the engine to suit a turbo or similar.

All good.

I doubt Lawso kept anything, but all receipts on what was replaced were included with the car.

It did need a service, but the spark plugs were new. leads weren't.

it has a new dizzy button and cap, and a few other bits and pieces.

Also has full ownership history and user manuals which is rare for the common road go-er of that age.

As I said to you, if I had somewhere to put it, I would make it a track car, as they do drive and handle extremely well with some dollars sent its way for suspension.

Edit: so we now have another club car... and it's not even an FTO. 3rd owner :lol:

Edit 3: You might want to remove the lower rad hose, and replace the thermostat housing cover, I never did buy a replacement now I think about it, and as you can tell from my other thread, it's rather rotten.

All hoses are new meanwhile.

Okay, so after fighting a long and difficult battle with that bastard of a car, I've gotten the gearbox out. Will start stripping it down in a couple days and see how much needs replacing/repairing.

The starter motor had a bolt that was hidden, and I couldn't see where I had to put the socket to undo it. Antoni finally had a flash of brilliance (sadly, not caught on tape for future reference) and managed to undo it. I'll bring the clutch and flywheel along on sunday to show you all just how shot it is.

I find it hi-larious.

OKAY! WE HAVE PROGRESS AT LAST!

Be mindful that I don't know the correct names for everything, and I've been popping JB & Cokes, so it may get a little hazy.

Stripped the gearbox down tonight. Have found that the dog-teeth on 5th are well and truly stuffed, as is the selector teeth. Thankfully, the baulk-ring is in good condition and the selector can be flipped to get new teeth out of it.

On the "lame" side of the scale, the selector-slide itself for 5th has broken. Found the chunk that had snapped off chilling in the selector area at the bottom of the gearbox, blocking 1st and 2nd from engaging. This means that I now require a new selector-slide, as well as the new 5th gear and clutch.

Wow.

I knew 5th gear was stuffed, didn't know to what end, interesting to read.

As always, good to see Lawso doesn't half do a job when breaking something.

The dog-gears on 5th and in the selector ring are severly worn. While I can flip the selector ring over (no need to select any other gears with it), it'll just wear out 5th faster. To do it properly, I need a new selector ring, new baulk ring, new 5th gear, new selector bracket, and some seals. Tossing up whether or not it's worth doing the bearings at the same time.

So I was right at what I was looking at.

Gearboxes are like kamasutra, you think you understand and can pull off that sh*t, but end up just doing your back instead.

Haven't had the time (or money) to order the parts in yet. I have a look at it every second night to make sure I know how it all goes back together, so should be sweet in that regard (joys of mental blueprinting).

Will be pulling the flywheel off tomorrow to take it in and get it machined, then ordering the new clutch soon. Hopefully I can get the new parts for 5th gear soon, albeit from somewhere OTHER than Courtesy Nissan, as their freight costs more than the parts themselves ($150 parts, $250 freight :roll: )

Only downside is a S/H box will have the same issues as this one, albeit without the busted fork.

Easier to just rebuild this one, that way I know what's been done to it and am not paying for someone elses f*ck ups
