To be fair, the issues I'm talking about are the 5th gear having no actual grip. If I was going to buy a S/H box, I'd buy a reconditioned one that had all new bearings, baulk rings, selector rings and gears.

The broken selector bracket is something that isn't ideal, however I can put it back in as it is now and the vehicle WILL be fine. The clutch is a separate issue and is irrelevant (200,000kms out of what appears to be a genuine clutch is pretty damn good. I'm at 65,000kms in my truck and I'm starting to get the symptoms, no slippage yet though 8) )

Yeah, that car was factory spec, only thing I had to replace was the water pump.

Nice work with the clutch Lawso.

Having said that meanwhile, it could explain the weird way it drove between certain rpms in all gears... so it may have been on the way out, but it never was any worse from the day I bought it to the day I sold it.

So I've finally gotten off my ass and am getting stuff done with this car. I've just ordered a timing kit with water and oil pump included. About $250 delivered, so I'm going to pull the motor out. Bennoz, i need your engine crane and (if possible) has anyone got a spare engine stand I can borrow for the next 6-8 months?

Basically, I'm going to strip the motor down, bore out the block a little, throw in some forged pistons and larger injectors and a larger throttle body if possible. Once I get my tax back I'll be ordering a reco'd gearbox and new performance clutch with lightened flywheel.

While i was under the car on Sunday, I noticed theres already an aftermarket swaybar on it (either Selby's or Whiteline). I'll probably get a set of coilovers for it to lower it down about 15mm. Aftermarket drivers seat and I'm set :D

Come & get the crane. Perfect timing, I need that out of the garage so I can make room for my engine stand  I've got a motor coming out of QLD that I'm rebuilding for the red rocket.

They're not expensive those stands mate, I think Supercheap are doing them for about 70 bucks.

EDIT: They are http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/online ... escription

Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

You sure?

Unless the oem broke and was replaced with it.

That car had a 200,XXX factory exhaust system and water pump on it.

FYI, that water pump is brand new now... but ehh.

I miss that car. :(

Edit: does it still have the Mazda wheel covers on it? Could I get them back?

The swaybar was white, just covered in black sh*t. As for the wheel covers, you can have em back :p still the Mazda ones haha.

If the water pump is new, I'll replace it with mine and then modify it for track work. Keep it all nice and easy ;)

Hmm, fair enough.

Don't think I ever really went under the car except to do an oil change when I bought it.
oh, and check the rails were straight...

EDIT: By the way, I still have that strut brace, same price as last mentioned if you're interested...

Cheers. Can't remember the price, so pm me and we'll continue it there. ;)

As for upgrading this thing, I've been searching fleabay while at tafe, and have found some interesting bits and pieces. I'm not sure what the factory gear is, but I can get up to 1000cc injectors and a 90mm throttle body for it... Overkill? I think not... :troll:

Have ordered a bearing and gasket kit for the engine, and will be ordering 12:1 compression forged pistons once I get paid this week :D Am tossing up with whether or not i should fabricate a quad-throttle body similar to that of the GTI-R Pulsar, or whether to run a twin- or the factory single-throttle body. Bennoz? Your fab skills will be greatly appreciated here

Timing Kit with all the goodies arrived last night. Now just to wait for the gasket kit and new pistons and I'll be set :D Will hopefully pull the engine out on saturday depending on my level of hangover.
