Alternator...

Post by ObsidianRadio »

Okay, so I think my alternator's playing up...

I know it's a common problem with FTO's so i'm not too worried!

Battery light came on when I was driving around the other night, and wouldn't go off until I was over 3000rpm. Battery gauge needle was also hovering low around the 18V mark... Came out to her the following morning and the battery was dead :/ Charged the battery on a 12V charger until it was fully charged and now the battery light is no longer on when i'm cruising or idling, and the battery gauge needle is now sitting roughly around the 12V mark...

I'd take it the alternator's got bipolar and is most probably rooted?

My questions are:
A) How much money will I be forking out for this?
B) Where can I source an alternator for as cheap as possible without it being shithouse?
C) Does the FTO share alternators with any other Mitsubishi model that's a little more common such as a Lancer?

...Hope this battery lasts me till Tuesday! :P

Would be about $20 bucks I'd say.

Let me know, as I do have another guy after one.

Whilst I do have 2 GR alts, the other one has more kms than that one on offer.

Hi, I have a problem with my alternator again. The battery light is on and it is over charging. When engine is cold it shows 15.3 volts. I had same problem 4 months ago when I replaced it with a second hand. Previous owner had to replace a regulator as well. So this is the third time same problem.

1. Is this a common problem in FTO's or could it be something wrong in my car that keeps blowing regulators.
2. Not sure another second hand alternator is the way to go (do not want to go through this procedure anytime soon). Is it possible to get a new one and what price?
3. Does anybody know where in Sydney I can get a regulator replaced in my alternator (my brother is a mechanic he can take the alternator out of the car for me)?
4. If both points above fail does anybody have a good second hand one for 1996 MIVEC?
