My new FTO fresh from Japan

So I decided to add this thread tonight for two reasons. Firstly because i'm excited that I take delivery of my FTO tonight and secondly to introduce myself to the forum. I'm new to FTOs, previously had a 1995 2WS Mazda MX6. So this will be a great upgrade. These pics are the ones I have that were taken at the docks in Tokyo. I will add more later on if there is interest? It is a 1998 GPVR Aero ;)

Another Aero R.
Very nice.

Anyone know what side skirts they are?
Never seen them before, and they match the body lines really nicely.

Meanwhile. Fibreglass bonnet?
Or simply has pins for the sake of it...

Nice ARC intake also.

Thanks,

As far as I know they are the Aero ones but I could be mistaken. But it does match the lines perfectly.

Stock bonnet with AeroCatch bonnet catches. Have ordered new white ones for it, was probably the only thing I didn't like on it.

And unfortunately that ARC intake had to be replaced with a stock panel filter system due to my license here in SA. But hopefully in just over a year it can be put back on ;)

Aero ones would be stock FTO ones, which yours aren't.
So you definitely have something different on there, which is cool.

Creative side skirts. Rare!!!

Other than that looked very much like my Aero when I go it off the docks. I had the fibreglass bonnet with the bonnet pins. Also had the white lightweight rims.

Looks great. Not many Aeros about. Yours makes 4 in the club.......

WTTC! It's always nice to see a clean, good working ftos around and if we're to buy another one I would get one from Japan too.

FUUU...

Was watching this on Edward Lee's and wondering why it didn't have a price.

Well i'm glad to hear i've done the club proud bringing another one here to Australia.

It is sitting at about 57,200ks at the moment. It is generally very well looked after, only a bit of damage to the centre part of the dash but shouldnt be too much of a problem to fix later.

I obviously didn't look at the bonnet properly the first time, it is indeed fibreglass, very lightweight. One of the bonnet catches is broken but still works, but I have already ordered a new pair of white ones from America tonight.

If you guys notice anything on the vehicle that is out of the ordinary, eg the side skirts let me know. Like I said, i'm new to FTOs and a bit of extra knowledge about mine would be awesome.

Yep, that was mine haha. For those of you who want to see it;

That Bonnet catch that he was struggling with in the video is now mostly gone thanks to the importers trying to force it closed.... which is why it is getting replaced

Looks real good ;)

How confident are you that those are the real kms?

The bonnet will need to come off for compliance. They may also remove the strut braces and Xenons and foglights if they do the job properly (according to ADR requirements). Make sure you ask them to keep all of the bits they remove for you. You dont want them throwing those bits away before you get them.

Well like any car it's history is unknown, anyone can change numbers in a book or on a odometer. That's always going to be the most uncertain thing when purchasing any car. I trust the guy that sourced it in Japan, the engine is in good condition with no obvious signs that is has done more than the odometer says. But to answer the question i'm about 75% confident haha ;). Will let you know once i've done a proper check-over of the engine.

The vehicle was complied in NSW and meets all RTA standards there. They didn't take any of it off the vehicle. Which makes me wonder the defectability of the vehicle now that you have said that. However the vehicle resides with me in SA and were known for having the lamest road safety standards for vehicles, look at how many lemons we have on the roads... any South Aussies agree?? haha

May I ask how you imported it?
Where you found it?

The car was imported through Edward Lees Japanese Imports in Sydney. They have a guy over in Tokyo called Nobu. He sources a lot of vehicles for them over in Japan. He has also imported many FTOs for Edward Lees over the years.

I hope you did your research on edward lee's reputation before you bought the car. It does look good and genuine though... for once.
