New member. EXTREMELY keen for an FTO ASAP.

Post by iPilot »

Hey guys, so im pretty sure the title explains it all.
Im a new member to this forum, or any forum for that matter.
20 years old and im looking for an FTO as a first car so I really dont wanna spend too much on one.
If anyone has an FTO for sale or anything like that under $5500 it would be really appreciated if you left a comment on this post.
Alternatively you can email me on omer.ozirmak@gmail.com
Oh and im in Sydney NSW - just thought it would be a good idea to mention that haha.
Any help or anything would be great!
Cheers guys.
Its either an FTO or nothing!

Unfortunately your looking for a car that really does require patience when searching for one, don't just buy the first good looking one that comes up without covering your ass with it first.

Kiz, you couldnt be more right. Im itching so bad just to get it and modify it like crazy! (of course keeping it legal) I have seen some around for that price but by the time i've had a chance to call the seller to arrange to inspect the vehicle it gets sold right from under my nose. I feel as though im going around in circles making no progress whatsoever! :(

& Taz ive sort of noticed that already, its a shame though koz im a person with the least patience whatsoever when it comes down to exciting things. (such as buying a first car for example :P)

Yeah well mechanics are the biggest ripoffs. a lot of dodgy mofos out there man so gotta be careful.
But damn, i know nothing about the mechanical aspect of a car so i hoped i dont get conned into purchasing a lemon as i'd have no idea to what im looking at, so theres no way id be able to tell if the part is running smoothly as intended or if its been rebirthed or anything for that matter. :(

take it to a mechanic you trust, best way to have it inspected.

if they're reluctant to do so, its probably dodgy.

Well first things first.
Find a car in my price range & keep it till the day i die! :P
Any hints on a good place to search?
Ive gone through carsales, drive.com.au & ive also googles fto's for sale in NSW.
They all just seem to be over the $6000 mark and if their below that then their already sold!
I want one ASAPPPPPPPPP! :(

The common trend on this forum.

Buy FTO which cost peanuts.

Pay the real price later.

If you run in to buying a car you know nothing about and think you have found a bargain, you will come off very disappointed when things start (and they will) go wrong.

Unless you are mechanically minded, have friends or family who are, or know a good mech, do not buy the first FTO you see.

Research, research, research.

We paid a rather pretty price for ours back in 07, and bar the required service it's been hassle free, apart from 1 noise which is a mystery and I have spent to date $1000 to find and remove (still no joy). I'm 'reasonably' mechanically minded, and these cars still can baffle me at times. Even my merc is more straight forward than this Jap contrapt.

Edit: Also, keep in mind you have the cost of insurance, for which at your age will not be cheap.
You can risk it, but given your age (no offence, but even I was involved in collisions when younger) you will want it.

I haven't been around since harry joined but if you've had a car for that long and selling it for a genuine reason, I don't see a problem with it. Also being in the club this long, he "should" have a bit of a knowledge about the beast. f**k, if you searched his name it would come up with any problems he's had with the car. Apart from that, just take it and him to a mechanic, pay your ~$100 and get it checked out.

Sorry but whose Harry? Lol.
Well im just gonna keep looking around I suppose, if i can find one on this forum then great. If not, no biggie.
I think im gonna have no option but to take it to a mechanic as most of my friends are around my age & i really wouldnt take their word on any mechanical aspect of a car lol.
As for my parents they wouldnt have they first clue about mechanics either, if they did then i wouldnt be in this dilemma haha.
Well mate if you could keep an eye out for me that'll be really appreciated. & I dont mean actively going out and searching lol, thats pretty rediculous. Just if something comes across you, it wouldnt hurt to gimmie a yell :P
Anyways man, I really appreciate all the advice & help. Cheers :)

Dont just grab the first one you can find! Its exciting to get an FTO, but be patient. If you find a crap one, dont just buy it with the expectation that you can fix it all up. For $5500 you can get a pretty decent FTO (Mine was $5700 with 122,XXX on it, runs great)

    PATIENCE.
