Next car?

So apparently I'll be working full-time next year and I'm looking at getting a new car. My current one will cost too much to get it how I like it so I'm not gong to bother with that.

What do you guys think I should get? There aren't that many cars that appeal to me for around the 10k mark. I was thinking of getting another FTO, this time in manual and a low KM version R.

Any opinions?

Spend 10k on your fto

New Mivec Engine = 2k.
New manual conversion = 1.5k
New paint job = 3.5k.
New bodykit parts = 1.5k.
New interior = $500.
New wheels = 1k.
New suspension upgrades = $500.

Instead of doing ALL that work (and still having a GR underneath) I could sell mine for 3.5k and it would end up costing less

I'd rather a chasis that's done under 100k instead of one that's approaching 180k.

Yea GL finding an FTO under 100k, specially the chassis ans not just the engine - thats not a GR/GS, thats willing to sell and in your (low for this kind of fto) budget.
IF you do somehow manage to find an FTO that fits into all of that criteria then it wont have everything you want i.e. bone stock or close to it and you'll still have to spend money on upgrading what you want done to it anyway

That's why I'm happy to wait until something pops up. FTOs are getting cheap, and the really good examples are hovering around the 10k mark now.

I've taken a peek back at the fto market lately and hate to admit its becoming harder, near impossible to find a low km manual (gpx, vR) fto for cheap without importing. Most under 100,000km are above 10 grand mark.

That first one you linked was a GX, second one again is 14k roughly landed and then your looking at picking it up from i think melbourne is their main port they ship to (might be able to get that to sydney)
I doubt that car koolio linked is 67k genuine km's - they rarely are but hey it very well could be, but again wont fit into your price tag.
Sam's fto isnt registered, no roadworthy and if nothing has changed since i went round and inspected it as i was interested it needs a few thousand dollars obvious work that i know of including injectors, this is discluding things like tyres/brakes etc which i guess you take chance with any car.
Just trying to say dont expect to get what your after straight away, and the more you wait the less chance youll get that low km fto you want remember.

I doubt ill tear myself away from mine though, unless someone waves like 10k cash under my nose or offers blow

Again, i think 10k to get a 4g mounted is a reasonable price
Assuming i can pick up an engine for 2-3k its not going to cost 7k for a couple of custom mounts and fittings - to get it up and running yea sure i have no idea how much its gonna cost, probably another 10 but to be mounted...

If you do a lot of work your self and the rest on the cheap it can be done, but it will go over 10K trust me. I have been looking into this for some time now.

Maybe i'm oblivious to hidden costs or what not but 7k just to get the engine mounted in place?
Me and my father (a mechanic of 37 years now) will be doing most of the work that we can, minus things that has to have specialised tools or we deem to much of a bitch and get someone else to do but i will be keeping a close budget tab and i guess we will just have to wait and see.
I understand that awd/rwd will be double that alone but thats down the road and for another time, for now just focused on getting the engine in, running and getting a few laps in for the feel of it

Hidden costs are splicing in wires form the FTO loom and evo loom, adapting the FTO box to fit the 4g63 pipe work in and out. The list keeps on going.

Since i will be using complete 4g running gear, what needs splicing?
The only thing electrical i will be keeping is headlights/taillights
I will be running a stand alone ecu, digital dash and 4g gearbox etc and obviously being a race car everything that is not absolutely essential is turfed...
Things i assume your talking about like engine gear/02 sensor MAP sensor etc wouldnt i would be using off the evo, and as such no splicing required?
Bulk of my costs will be in purchasing goodies - seats/digital dash etc rather than the costs of buying a 4g half cut and sticking most of the running gear in
