Newb from WA

Post by skippy »

Thought I'd say 'Hey!' seeming I'm going to be lurking for a while/reading your collective knowledge.

My name's Skippy, live in Perth, and I don't own an FTO, but I do own the heart of one!

I've recently taken on a project car to make my daily drive, a 6a12 mivec power lancer coupe. The catch is, that the last 5owners or so didn't know what they were dealing with nor how to even look after a car to much.
I was directed to this site by another lancer mate doing a 6a mivec swap, and tbh, I'm loving all of the information on here and benefiting from it a lot!

So... Hey!

P.S. a lot of nice cars on here and a lot of mods that are worth admiration.

If you ever have any queries, you can simply post on these forums and there will be loads of advice and tips your way!
You should put some pics up of that Lancer of yours so we can see what you're dealing with :)

Woah completely forgot to check back on this thread :|

Thanks for the warm welcomes!

I've just quoted the first post of my ride thread from my main forum:
Hehe, so was holding off ruining the surprise really and trying not to give anything away incase it fell through, only Jeffaz on here new I what was in that car.

So some story of it. Saw this car whilst looking for a potential car to take the CH's engine, this looked ok though a bit pricey, so I emailed him, got this in reply:
Hi, mods are v6 mivec, thanks
!?!?!??! MIVEC?!?! So ofc I RACED over there and sure enough, there is a 6a12 mivec sitting in this coupe.
So then I decided and paid for it last night and took it home from work this morning... Haven't had a chance to take proper photos yet but here are some goodies.

The outsite, nice and straight, though will be getting a new front bumper possibly depending on my motivation to fix it.

Interior... Still trying to figure out if MR or GLXi... leaning towards GLXi.

Battery relocation... pretty simple and nice, and is a dry cell:

Cup Holders!!!!

and found this in the glove box:

Two of my lancers together:

And... engine:

Trev broke it some more:

wtf is this:

Apparent list of mods:
6A12 DOHC MIVEC
2.5-3" system w/ headers
coilovers
Full black interior?
Boot relocation for battery
Front and rear FTO brake upgrades w/ slotted twin pots at front
Aftermarket ECU OR Flashed FTO ecu (need to find out...)
EL Dials
And thats it until i start pulling stuff apart

So list of things to do to remove yellow:
  • Engineer Engine, Gearbox, Brakes and Suspension
    Buy inner wheel arc guards
Buy new tail lights and headlights (stockies) to allow rego
Buy a lot of zip ties
    Make new front mesh grill
    Raise the coilovers
RETUNE (holy sh*t it's running rich, won't idle either thanks to it... to much full being pumped in at low rpm's and drowning out the engine)
New muffler to quieten it down, and possibly change down to 2.5" or even 2.25" to give it some back pressure cause atm it sounds way to echo-ie for my liking...
New cat since the old one went out the muffler this morning
Get obrian out to fix chips in windshield

So yeah, it's not going to be on the road any time soon, this is my new project, CH is staying and getting her interior finished as well as smaller things like new sub and maybe exhaust system, but ATM my main goal is to fix the CE.
Think I will make a ride thread for and Q's you might have.

Also the builders of this car was RPW, which I'm 50/50 on tbh. Mainly because I don't know what they've done or what previous owners have done, but a lot of it is a shamble... Pretty much require full Lancer loom and full engine loom incl. ecu.

It looks like the circuit boards (the green ones, at least) are hand soldered. They could be an after market ECU kit or ignition/EFI kit, or maybe some form of data logging for the Haltech. With all the wiring looms floating around it is hard to tell

Could it be for the ECU to be plugged into a computer monitor directly, maybe to monitor the engine stats live, it seems to have a power adaptor and a RGB monitor plug, but then many things communicate with a RC-232 plug.
Maybe it's for a serial to USB adapter cable so you can plug in your laptop

It is a 9 pin D-sub connector, usually used to connect to a serial port on a PC.

Ah, I didn't update the front post on my ride thread on AL.

The grey box is a "mivec" controller apparently since the Haltech couldn't actually switch the mivec on at X,XXXrpm. Idk why this car has a aftermarket ecu, but I'm currently sourcing parts to put the ECU and stock loom back in to power the 6A12 (stock FTO loom that is).
