Irish Newbie

Post by StewyD32 »

Hi Guys. Hope you are all keeping well.

My name is Stuart and I'm on the Irish forum (same username).
Thought I'd join you guys as I'm moving to OZ shortly, and I'm thinking seriously about bringing my FTO over.
Im wondering if I can get feedback on if its a good idea (importing, selling if things go pear shaped for me etc). I am currently selling it for the moment but i really want to hang onto her as she is in top condition and there are very few left in this condition as we all know.

Anyway thats about it. I'll be lurking around the forum reading up. :)

Where are you moving to in Aus?
Can't give advise on bringing your FTO, as I have never imported, guess it depends on how much you love it ;)

Thanks for the welcome.
I have no final plans yet as I'm doing a bit of traveling first before I get over. Will be steeping into OZ in January.
More than likely will be in Perth at the start as we have a few friends there.

Can i put up a few pics of the car so you guys can oogle at it? 8O

WTTC!!
That is a really nice looking FTO! I'd say bring it over!!

IMO it's definitely worth importing. But, the cost+hassle of importing vs cost of buying a good FTO here is what you would need to weigh out.
Also, compliance is something to keep in mind. Including changing everything from mph to kph, etc.

You should be able to find all the details for importing vehicles to AU in this link:
http://www.infrastructure.gov.au/roads/ ... index.aspx

P.S: It gets hot (and humid in some areas) in here, you will want an AC in your car here in Aus... :P

Welcome to the club :)
I doubt it would be worth shipping your FTO to Australia in my opinion.

If you love your car then it's worth it. You know it's problems where another car you don't. So it comes down to if you can afford to bring it over, then time to get it close to stock for compliance.

Welcome, Stewy!

If you love your car, then bring it over. It looks beautiful! You definitely wouldn't want to leave such a beautiful car behind now, would you? Sometimes the price to bring it over doesn't compare to the love for your car!

And those number plates... My god, they look awesome. I WANT THAT FONT ON MY PLATES!! :D

Sorry for not posting sooner. Have been very busy the last week.
I still need to look into shipping it over. Did a quick scan through what I need to do and is a lot more than I thought, but still no final estimates so we'll just have to wait and see. I'm considering putting it into storage and doing an engine transplant on my return if I ever do.
