Hi everyone! Looking at buying an fto (perth)

Post by Amandaghil »

Hi everyone! I'm Amanda :) ever since I got my licence 3 years ago I wanted an fto. The time has come where I'm in a good position money wise and I'm on the hunt for one!

This is the link for the car ive been looking at.. Tell me what you think:
http://m.gumtree.com.au/1995-mitsubishi ... 051197#Fto

I know it's pretty much stock but at the moment I'm really looking for something with low kms (well in comparison to every other fto) and as there aren't many for sale it's not a big selection.

Anyway! Give me some feedback and say hello :)

From a quick look:
Looks like a gpx? Saw climate controls in there.
8.5 is too high for a stock 95 auto imo.

Edit:
Definitely has some sort of aftermarket exhaust along with the rims. So not completely stock :)

And welcome to the club :)

I agree completely about it being over priced. As it's a private sale I thought I would be able to bring it down :) any ideas on how much you think it would be worth? Also thanks for the quick reply!!

Climate control is in every model except the GPvR and I think the GS? (confirm someone?)

Exhaust may just be a tip.

Price seems steep, especially considering its a pre-facelift automatic.
I fix cars.

Have you checked the trading post section here?

A member is selling his gpx for 3.9 (nego) in adelaide. (I'll bargain that for 3.5 :) ). Has some decent basic mods. But high kms though.

Repair costs:
Center console brand new something around 200-250 from Dwayne (dstocks)

Heater coil, buy from dwayne, can't remember the price but shouldn't cost much.

Wheel alignment 40 as long as it has nothing to do with any bushes or rims.

You can even pick up some nice body kit, get those faults repaired yet still be below 8.5k

Roof rust is something to look out for and does cost quite a bit to fix. (1.5-2k depending on job)

Gear box is also worth checking before buying as well.

Can't really give you an approximate price on that car you saw on gumtree till we get more details. But if all the regular stuff has been taken care of, around 5k will be what i would pay for it.

Try and get a manual fto gpx if you can, you will enjoy it way more than an auto.

It looks clean but what makes me wonder about it is, it's a 95 GPX with 90'000Ks. Sounds a little to low to me.
Question I would be asking is how long has it been in Australia for?
Also there is very limited info on the car so it would need to be inspected to get more of an idea on it.
And agree price is a little high.

Hmm, think you are right... I always thought the GPX was the only model with the folding mirrors and automatic climate control? Compared to manual control on the other models?

WTTC

I wont rabble on, but basically 8.5k is towards the top end of what you would pay for a decent 97+ manual FTO in good condition. The market for FTO's are very very slim and is getting slimmer by the day with cars like the s15, 86/BRZ etc coming out at such low prices.
IMO you should get something that is already in good nick rather than finding something a little less expensive but with faults. Generally speaking faults dont usually appear on their own and can be quite costly if gone unattended/neglected (which if the owner hasnt listed it is quite possible this is the case)
Id suggest waiting out for a good clean 97+ with something JUST over 100k on the clock (as the 100k service would of just been done and saved you a good 1500)

It was taken out of the GPVR to save on weight, cut off a few KG. So it had the manual control instead. Not sure on the GS though.

Not sure where you saw that mate haha, I wasn't aware of it being available for sale here in SA?

Oh and WTTC ;)
There are two types of people on forums; those that give helpful advice, and the others

Oh I forgot to add WTTC :D .
Let's hope you get an email back, but I think the best bet would be to keep looking around.

Am sure someone here can go look at the car, and car tag drive/transporters can deliver to Perth :)
For that price..I would have gone for it.

I got mine from Canberra :)
