Just got pulled over for the first time

Post by Vectose »

I was driving to pick my mum up from the shops and went through an orange light turning right, I was about 5-10m away from the intersection when the lights changed so would not have been able to stop. Next thing I see is red and blue lights flashing in the rear view mirror. (The police were in a side street just after the turn of the intersection)

He comes up to the window asks for my licence and asks me why I went through an orange light, I explained that it was too late for me to stop and I would have had to slam my brakes to stop. He then proceeded to ask me more questions. Who owns the vehicle, is it a prohibited vehicle, why are your tail lights tinted, do you work, do you go to school.

He then asked me to pop the bonnet and his partner was looking around the engine bay, they saw my UAS air box and told me "You're lucky that that's boxed in"

I played dumb about the tint and told him that's how the car came, he told me he would fine me for going through the orange light and give me a defect for the tint and that I would lose my licence for 3 months and went back to his car.

While he was in his car I pulled off the vinyl tint, he then came out after a few minutes and told me that he wont give me a defect anymore because I peeled them off and that he will let me off with a warning for the orange light.

I had my in car camera rolling the whole time, so even if they did fine me for the orange light, I could dispute it :cheeky:

As such, yes it is.
Very very grey area however, and I dare say a vehicle of lesser design would not have attracted so much attention.

You get that.

By the sounds of it he was just trying to give you a a scare.

This is the rule :-
Traffic lights
red means stop. Wait behind the stop line.
Do not go through the intersection.

Yellow (amber) means stop. You can enter the intersection if you are so close that sudden braking might cause a crash.

green means proceed through the intersection carefully.

Nah seriously, that's so rude of them. We have these cars because they are brilliant vehicles by design, they are not commodores or Great Walls. Why are we automatically assumed to be hoons, derelicts and/or serial rapists for driving DECENT CARS?

You should just submit a complaint anyway, that's a very low and desperate level of policing.

On the plus side, f**k tinting my lights then

Then you will be done for speeding, and entering an intersection dangerously ( I will check on the correct wording for it ).

Well done for getting away with out any fines Vectose :thumright:

I got pulled over on Tuesday, on my way home from TAFE.
I was slightly speeding though ;) , on the link road from F3 to Doyalson, just after exciting the F3. I thought I would give the FTO a bit of a squirt and next thing I know I had blue/red lights flashing in my mirrors. It was a Fedaral police officer with 3 gold stars on his shoulders.
He asked why were you going ??Km's over the speed limit, are you running late - No Sir, I don't know Sir - Nice car, were you just showing off - Yes Sir - You are going to be later now, stopped on the side of the road talking to me - Yes Sir - Licence please *takes licence back to car for 3 mins, returns and hands back licence* If I was a highway patrol, you would be walking home right now - Yes Sir - NOW take it easy - Yes Sir, Thank you - Goodbye - *I take off slowly with the officer following me, until my turn off*

I shat my pants, No fine though, He didn't even go over my car or even mention my tinted tail lights

Motto - Don't speed

If only the police here were as nice as the ones being described in this thread.

When my sister was on her red P plates, she got a $110 fine for her "P plate not showing properly"
so before she fixed it, she took a photo and it was deadset like this:

Aaaaaactually you have to inform the cop if you record the conversation in any way. otherwise it violates the privacy act and will be discredited in court.

Hey Phil, do you understand why I'm so skeptical about speeding now? Imagine if you were on your Ps and the bloke got you for that

And rob - good save mate. Pretty good thinking to take the tint off. Did he say anything about your brake light cover?
I fix cars.

Was more so talking about going through the light. The footage proves that I would not have been able to stop safely.
