Engine rebuild power gains

So i have done a quick search, and nothing of real importance has popped up - just curious as to how much of the original factory power you can gain over an engine rebuild - doing all seals, new pistons, block work all done etc
To those who have also done it - how much of a difference can you feel - how bad was it beforehand and did you dyno afterwards?
My car will be off the road most of the time (apart from a weekly nip around the block to keep it running) for the next 8 months, going to have a few bits and pieces done to it, thinking of a possible rebuild if money looks good and it will be worth it.

I dare say that it could be pushing close to factory figures at the flywheel if everything is done correctly. I'm also curious.

The thing is that is completely depends on the condition of your current engine.
If it's in good condition, obviously gains won't be that much, if it's in poor condition the gains will be more substantial.

I think that if the engine is a bit tired, 15% + power gain should be achievable.

I did a re-build but using the same internals had 200,000kms on the clock and I noticed a difference

I'd say Aza013 would of noticed a lot of difference the 013FTO is a monster

Yep you can feel it .
Went from 110 up to137 with haltech and port and polish mixed in.
And don't forget I have not done headers and pipes yet, so there is more there to have.
The biggest thing with it is more pull as it's all fresh, there is also the fact that when you do the block you will be opening it up more ( blue printing the engine so to speak ).

Hmm I honestly would of thought more than that aza, or they really did stretch the factory figures.
I wouldn't bother with port n polish, ecu etc but sounds like its worth the effort to rebuild. Guess ill see how my bank is next 8 months

Don't forget if you are reconditioning the block you could get more from it.
Also it's not just the kw's that go up it's the nm's that you feel more, you will feel that pull a lot harder.
It's well worth doing it.
Dras is also one that can give feed back as he did the same thing.

Not sure if I wanna replace or rebuild, has 217,xxx on the clock and its 18 years old now, so obviously needing the upgrade

I know that as it was money from insurance when someone ran up my ass

If you're considering a rebuild, why not consider doing more internal work and forking out the extra dollar (if you can spare it) to perhaps upgrade the pistons, bore etc? Then you won't have to do it again!

Did you get the cylinders honed?
And the crank journals etc?
Check clearances with all the bearings?

I am thinking of doing a DIY engine build but it seems it's still not a cheap exercise

yeah major parts all looked at its a lot cheaper if u strip it down and rebuild it urself took some time as well but great learning experience major work was done at Wyong can't remember what the place is called but they have a 9sdc drag car do they know what they r doin they had no idea what everything was though

Yep planning to rebuild mine too after +250k kms.
Change the piston rings, tappet lifters, port & polish and maybe upgrade the fuel pump - anybody got experience on the last one?
What pump would you recommend and any hp increase ?
In the meantime looking for a jumbuck as a replacement car.

I went from 92 kw at the wheels with my gr engine with 180,000 to 118 kw at the wheels with a reconditioned gpx engine. Both engines had haltech + rpw extractors + high flow cat (genuine and not a track day pipe) + 2.75' cat back exhaust.

Both sets of numbers come from the same dyno and i will post some scans soon.
