If you try to start your vehicle and the engine turns too slowly, or not at all, the starter or starter solenoid may need to be replaced. Before you go through the steps of replacing parts always do a few troubleshooting techniques to make sure that the starter or the solenoid is the problem. Because the starter and the solenoid work together its always best to replace them together.

Starter Motor Troubleshooting Tips:

Check the battery cables and terminals for corrosion.

Clean the corrosion and replace the battery or cables if needed.

Check the wires to the starter and the solenoid for cracks, corrosion, or breakage.

Make sure your battery is charged enough to perform starting functions. Note: your instrument lights and dome lights may come on but your battery may still not have enough power to start the car.

Remember electrical parts fail mostly in part to time and usage not because of wear and tear like mechanical parts. And the damage is mostly in the internal electrical wiring, so some failures cannot be noticed from an outside inspection. If you have done the tests listed above and are still having problems starting your vehicle, then here are the steps to follow for proper installation of your automobile's starter motor.

If u can't hear anything when u turn the key then it sounds like your battery is dead, if u put your key to accessory settin does the radio or climate control come on?? If not then its most likely your battery, if they do then its possibly your starter motor like TimmyD said

Had this a while back, it was because my mate left the interior lights on all night and the batt went flat.

Charge the batt and make sure the battery cables are nice and secure.

See what happens then. :D

don't suppose your car alarm went off when you tried to start your car ;)

if that's the case then your battery is definately dead

I'd just replace the battery all 2getha rather than tryin to jump start the car, but it seems strange as your headlights will turn on???? Is that while engine is running, or not? if it isnt then it seems strange that your headlights will work but nothin else, well that is unless u blew a hell of a lot of fuses all at once

Just change the battery and c how u go
