ABS/LSD CV joint

Post by Taz »

About to order a pair of CV's - wondering if they are all universal, or if a 98 GPR with ABS/LSD would have a different spline count than a regular CV (im assuming it would)

From memory the LSD gearboxes have stubby-ended shafts for the gearbox end, the outer joints are all the same though (although I'm not entirely sure of that one either).
I'll have an FTO one day... i swear!

until then:
1. 2001 Merc-Benz A160 (porta-loo on wheels)
2. 2007 Peugeot 307 TDi (more fun than you'd expect)
3. 2009 Mitsubishi Triton Di-D (a monster in its own right)
4. 1992 Nissan NX Coupe (club car and project car)
5. 1996 Holden SB Barina - "The Nugget"
6. 1996 Jeep XJ Cherokee Sport - The Budget Build
7. 2010 Toyota Landcruiser 76 Series - V8 Goodness... - Build coming soon.
8. 1990 Audi 90 manual - The delightfully dignified daily driver

I will walk into bursons/repco soon but i doubt theyd have a part number for the one i want =(
I can maybe cross reference one but itll be hard to source outside camskill (if they even have one havent checked yet)

EDIT: nope - they have a listing for a universal joint, but not an LSD one (im assuming the ABS has no bearing on the outer spline?) so i cant even get a part number to try and source here.
Think i might have to put the car on stands, and get down to a place with cv in hand see if they can find a replica.

Im thinking maybe an EVO 3 or similar might be the same if they had an LSD.
Would all i really need to know is the spline count and size on both sides?

Best to search bennozs posts.

Outer is universal
Shafts are different depending on auto 4,5 or stick
Inner are all different depending on diff type and box.

This.

Go on here and find your car and follow it until you hit the part number you need.

Outers are universal, $39 on eBay. Just need to specify ABS so it comes with the toothed gear around it. If you're looking for a like model, its the HJ Galant. They're slightly bigger than a CE Lancer, slightly smaller than a 3rd gen Magna.

You dont replace the inners, you rebuild them. Any drivrshaft/power steering specialist can do it for you. Bloke I use charges me $90 per shaft for a full reco. That includes a new outer CV and rebuilding the inner (gearbox end) with new boots and a coat of black paint!

It's not rare, he get 5spd tip of my car all time.

It simply takes him an install to realise he forgot he had to make a custom driveshaft in the first place, and claim there's something wrong with the car.
